Hmmm, another FA. They're popping up with surprising regularity for me. I'm getting sloppy... Don't be discouraged. Out of the three puzzles I have posted right now, this is by far away the most difficult. I stated right at the beginning that it is going to either go very quickly or take a while...it's starting to look like the latter! Is 10:16 all the longer I am allowed? Alas, I'm not quite sure what you mean by this question, and I don't want to misinterpret it. Could you please rephrase? if yes, is it a time limit implicit in what I'm trying to do (which is get somewhere)? is it an arbitrary time limit that has been imposed by some outside judge? Well, it *is* an arbitrary time limit.... ruling body? organization? rule? ...but imposed by none of these (though organization is the closest) (I'm thinking of things like the Ironman Triathlon--if you haven't finished the swimming and the biking sections by a certain time, you aren't even allowed to start the marathon. Anything like that?) Sorry, nothing like that |

I've just re-read all the questions above and i'm really lost... so i'll try some blind shots 1. Am I a videogame character? And 10 min 16 sec is the time I have to solve some mission? 2. Do I have to catch a train or a plane in 10 min 16 sec? 3. Do I have to watch the TV broadcast of the world cup final between Italy and Far Oer Islands and the match starts in 10 min 16 sec? Questions: Am I a normal living human being? It seems that the destination i'm going to is not relevant, so is it just relevant the fact that I am moving and going somewhere? And after 10 min 16 sec will I still have the possiblity and/or the need of going there? |

Is time of day relevent? Night? Day? 10 min 16 sec before dawn? Before sunset? Before the full moon rises and I become a werewolf? Before the moon crushes the city if I fail to defeat the evil posessed scarecrow? |

Mattiel I've just re-read all the questions above and i'm really lost... so i'll try some blind shots 1. Am I a videogame character? And 10 min 16 sec is the time I have to solve some mission? Sorry, but nothing like this. 2. Do I have to catch a train or a plane in 10 min 16 sec? Not this either, though this idea isn't completely away from the right forest... 3. Do I have to watch the TV broadcast of the world cup final between Italy and Far Oer Islands and the match starts in 10 min 16 sec? Same answer as for item 2). Questions: Am I a normal living human being? As established earlier, "I" can be anyone. It is irrelevant exactly who "I" is. However, it was also determined earlier in the puzzle that the people group within the context of the puzzle happened to be the British. It could just as easily have been any other nationality or group of people, though. It seems that the destination i'm going to is not relevant, so is it just relevant the fact that I am moving and going somewhere? YES -- good question. And after 10 min 16 sec will I still have the possiblity and/or the need of going there? Yes, and... Image Is time of day relevent? No Night? Day? 10 min 16 sec before dawn? Before sunset? Before the full moon rises and I become a werewolf? Before the moon crushes the city if I fail to defeat the evil posessed scarecrow? So none of these either (though your ideas are certainly interesting. ) |

Trying a different approach... When you are no longer ok, are you... dead? dying? injured? mentally harmed? physically harmed? have you lost something? or someone? witnessed something? missed something? |

During these 10 min 16 sec, is there something particular I am not allowed to do? Am I obliged to go somewhere? Is there some place I cannot go to? |

Trickymartin Trying a different approach... When you are no longer ok, are you... dead? dying? injured? mentally harmed? physically harmed? have you lost something? or someone? witnessed something? missed something? None of these really. "Missed something" is perhaps the closest, but it is not that close at all. Mattiel During these 10 min 16 sec, is there something particular I am not allowed to do? No Am I obliged to go somewhere? Yes -- though you may not be necessarily "obliged" to go. The relevant point here is that you are going somewhere. Is there some place I cannot go to? No Since this is moving along rather slowly, here's a HINT in whitetext: You are all thinking in terms that are too concrete. The basis of this puzzle deals with a somewhat abstract concept. Focus more on the area of concepts and ideas rather than the concrete and practical. |

I KNOW! YOU NEED THE BATTERY OUT OF THE CLOCK SO THAT YOU CAN POWER THE LOCATOR CARD FROM THE NUCLEAR WARHEAD SO THAT THE MI6 AGENTS IN THE EX-KGB OFFICE CAN FIND YOU AND STOP RENARD AND ELECTRA BEFORE THEY CAUSE THE NUCLEAR SUBMARINE TO MELTDOWN NOT FAR FROM ISTANBUL! |

No, this isn't James Bond, you know. In the future, please refrain from using all caps in your posting -- it hurts the eyes! Thanks. |

I'm sorry, I was just so exciting because I thought I knew it. Anyway, how many people will be killed if I become all wrong(not ok)? |

If no one gets killed then I must be ok, so what are we talking about? |

"I'm sorry, I was just so exciting because I thought I knew it. " I meant to say "excited".... |

If no one gets killed then I must be ok, so what are we talking about? That's actually not quite true. To define "being ok" as "no one getting killed" is excessively narrow. There are many ways to be "not ok", and yet involve no fatalities. |

So... in 10 minutes and 17 seconds... Y2K hits and it turns out your computer wasn't compatable? The virus that was introduced makes everything go haywire? Something not good happens? Something bad happens? Something unhealthy happens? Something inconvenient happens? Something mildly irksome happens? Something catastrophic happens? The parents come home and see you threw a party when they told you not to? The Death Star fires its lazer cannon and destroys Alderaan? destroys Endor's moon? |

So... in 10 minutes and 17 seconds... Y2K hits and it turns out your computer wasn't compatable? No, nothing like this The virus that was introduced makes everything go haywire? So no to this as well Something not good happens? No, but this idea is not that far from the right forest Something bad happens? Same answer as the one before Something unhealthy happens? No Something inconvenient happens? No Something mildly irksome happens? In my opinion, no. But I can see why some people might classify it as "mildly irksome" Something catastrophic happens? No The parents come home and see you threw a party when they told you not to? No -- with my luck, the time limit on that always seem to be 10 minutes, 15 seconds (i.e. too late!) The Death Star fires its lazer cannon and destroys Alderaan? No, nothing like this destroys Endor's moon? So no to this as well |

Would this puzzle work for any time period other than 10 minutes and 16 seconds? If no, is this because the puzzle is based on a true story? On a movie? Since I'm travelling (with a purpose?) but where I'm going or how I'm getting there doesn't matter, is there something/someone I need to find/meet at the destination? Who won't be there after 10 min 16 sec? |

No Since I'm travelling (with a purpose? Yes) but where I'm going or how I'm getting there doesn't matter, is there something/someone I need to find/meet at the destination? Well, yes Who won't be there after 10 min 16 sec? But not this idea Time for a long overdue HINT in whitetext: You guys all have been focusing on the wrong idea. All the questions have been variations of the same idea that people have 10 min 16 sec to get somewhere before something undesirable happens. You will have to move laterally sideways from this in order to make any real progress at all. |

Has the time of 10 minutes and 16 seconds been decided in advance? By myself? by the person I'm meeting? or by someone else? Would I necessarily be aware that this time is somehow important? Is 10 minutes 16 seconds the average length of time it takes someone to do something? |

Has the time of 10 minutes and 16 seconds been decided in advance? Yes By myself? by the person I'm meeting? or by someone else? By a whole group of people, actually Would I necessarily be aware that this time is somehow important? NO -- good question! In fact, chances are good that if you are aware that this time is somewhat important, you wouldn't need to do this puzzle because it'd already be $poiled for you. Is 10 minutes 16 seconds the average length of time it takes someone to do something? No |
