Did somebody call to deliver bad news?
The death of a family member? Diagnosis of something bad in a family member?
Diagnosis of something bad in you?
Did it involve giving you test results that weren't yours?
Something equally bad?
Did they call the wrong number?

Diagnosis of a friend?
Diagnosis of a pet?
Diagnosis of a distant family member?

Was it...
Cancer?
An Accident?
Getting hit by a car?
Anything broken?
Concussion?

Diagnosis of a friend?
Diagnosis of a pet?
Diagnosis of a distant family member? none of these. it was the diagnosis part that was off..

Was it...
Cancer?
An Accident? this one
Getting hit by a car?
Anything broken? some cracked ribs
Concussion? quite possibly, i don't remember.

figuring out that it was an accident is enough to know about the bad news. I've been trying to figure out how to answer the who it was part, since he is now my husband but was then just my boyfriend. I think you've covered enough of the possibilities for me to give you that information. a close friend/family member!

Ok, recaping: Your... significant other (yeah! that works)... got into an accident, wound up in the hospital and you were called and informed of the circumstances.

Was it the injury that was unbelievable?
Was it the circumstances of how he got the injury that were unbelievable?
Was it the time and/or location that were unbelievable?
Was it that they accidentally gave you the wrong name that made the call unbelievable?
Was it the fact that he used his one phone call on you rather than to notify direct family that was unbelievable? (Sweet. Hold on to him.)

Was it the circumstances of how he got the injury that were unbelievable? no
Was it the time and/or location that were unbelievable? timing
Was it that they accidentally gave you the wrong name that made the call unbelievable? no, they gave me the right name
Was it the fact that he used his one phone call on you rather than to notify direct family that was unbelievable? (Sweet. Hold on to him.) well, that was special :) but that's not it. (and I'm definitely hanging on to him forever!)

Was the timing unbelievable because...
He was supposed to be at work and therefore safe at that time?
Were you planning on doing something that day?
Were you planning on doing something together soon?
Something that would have to be pushed back because of his injury? Like a wedding? Something just as important?

The timing was unbelievable because...
You had just gotten a premonition that something bad had happened to him?
You'd just felt your own ribs ache?
You'd just found out you were pregnant?
You were about to put dinner in the oven?
You'd just cracked some turkey ribs?

*grumbles* ...and there's that brain freeze again.

Does this second phone call still revolve around your husband's accident? Were the callers involved...

Did the phone call go something along the lines of: "_____, Significant Other is in the hospital with some broken bones."

*****SPOILER*****

After two unbelievable phone calls, I am pretty convinced that my mother-in-law has some sort of psychic connection. She e-mailed me one day, asking if Ciahnan was okay (my husband) since she had a premonition that something bad had happened. I was in the middle of replying, telling her that he was fine, when the hospital called saying he had been in an accident. I of course called my mother-in-law immediately to tell her the news. Later I found out that my brother-in-law had been on the phone with his father at the time, and my mother-in-law looked at him and said "You need to get off the phone right now" just seconds before I called. How she knows these things, I have no idea.

Thanks to all for the great work, especially Lisa!
