Does the detective have a good reason to believe that the initials are A.S. (and not S.A.)?
Were the letters A and S missing on a sign? in a way that also people with a lower degree of smartness than our Sherlock Holmes would notice it?
Relevant that in several languages S.A. is the acronym for a joint stock company (public limited, in the UK)?

Was the abbreviation "S.A." at the beginning, middle, or end of the establishment's name?

In which country(ies) is this establishment most often encountered? (insert LTPF list of countries, provinces, etc.)

Was this establishment:
for consumer goods? for food? clothing? shelter? other household items? luxury items? building materials? for a service?

Do the initials stand for: the name of the founder? something related to the products carried? relevant?
