When my (late) father was widowed he told me how he had learned to do a regular household task. It was astounding in its simplicity and although not everybody will be able to do it, many of you may well benefit from his method

OK, so how to get a duvet cover on with only one person (on the duvet that is...not the person).
And even if you never have to put a duvet cover on a duvet, you may still be able to use the method?

I think the three methods are:
Squashing it into the corners and shaking (my favourite)
Turning the cover inside out
Getting inside the cover with the duvet
Did he use one of these methods, if so which one?

And even if you never have to put a duvet cover on a duvet, you may still be able to use the method? no, the method directly relates to putting a cover back on a duvet

I think the three methods are:
Squashing it into the corners and shaking (my favourite) yes but with a very big variation
Turning the cover inside out no
Getting inside the cover with the duvet definitely not
Did he use one of these methods, if so which one? the first one is closest but how did he make it a breeze to do?

No clothes pegs were involved. Don't be afraid to throw ideas into the pot - if Dad's method doesn't work for you, other people's methods might. It's certainly a problem for a lot of people judging by the newspaper discussions and radio phone ins that cover this problem

So he'd use pegs to hold the corners in place while getting the others in?

Do we need to watch out for floor numbering conventions? Here in the U. S. the ground floor = the first floor, but in some parts of Europe the first floor is the first one up from the ground floor. At least, it used to be.

He hangs it out the (second or higher) storey window? So that it doesn't bang on the floor when he's trying to shake the duvet all the way down to the bottom?

******** SPOILER *********

I couldn't believe how obvious a solution this was to putting duvet covers back on - even single covers, never mind doubles. Not only does the railing support the weight, the duvet can then drop below the level of the floor that you are on, which makes it SO much easier.
