Is it a naturally occurring object? If the Music had continued, would it have caused the object to move? Would it have knocked her into the river? Would she have seen it coming and tried to run for the river? Is the Music a sound like drums? |

Would the music have caused the object to move by physically acting upon it? By causing some person to move it? By sending a remote signal? |

Ok. I think we need a recap. I thought we were close to solving this for sure and suddenly we're feeling way off track. Not sure what went wrong. |

Is the music drums? Does the music normally cause the object(objects?) to start moving? Are the objects something found in everyday life? Would their movement normally cause a problem? Are the objects buildings? (or a building)? you said it didn't have to do with transportation, right? is it electronic equipment of some sort? if it moves, does that mean it is broken? |

Ok. I think we need a recap. I thought we were close to solving this for sure and suddenly we're feeling way off track. Not sure what went wrong. Sure. There is definitely a bit more that hasn't been figured out yet. Recap below. Is the music drums? no Does the music normally cause the object(objects?) to start moving? uhhh... difficult question to answer. No, but be very careful of an FA Are the objects something found in everyday life? yes Would their movement normally cause a problem? yes Are the objects buildings? (or a building)? no you said it didn't have to do with transportation, right? yes is it electronic equipment of some sort? no if it moves, does that mean it is broken? YES glaciers relevant? no |

~~~~~~~~~~~ RECAP ~~~~~~~~~~~ The Music Stopped, she didn't die We know that she is outside and that there are many other people with her. We also know that the music is drum like, but isn't drums. We know that if the music continued, something would have moved/break. We also know that if the music continued the object would facilitate her ending up in the river. We know that the object is larger than a car, but is not a vehicle/device of transportation. It is man made. Nor is it a building. We also named her Yvette on the 20th of September... |
Would the object have detached from something else? Would the music have been the sound of the object breaking? was she near a bridge? near the river bank? would the object have hit her and pushed her physically into the water? would it have startled her so she fell into the water? |
Was she on a bridge? Is this "music" made by soldiers marching over the bridge? |
The soldiers were marching in step until they got to the bridge where she was standing. They purposely changed to marching out of step to avoid the synchronized footsteps from multiplying their force and damaging or collapsing the bridge. |
Soldiers will indeed break step (though not formation) when marching over certain kinds of suspension bridge. If the cadency of the soldiers' march happens to match the natural frequency of the bridge, there is a danger that resonance will cause the bridge to collapse, or at any rate to suffer severe structural damage. Some sources claim that this has actually happened, but these are unreliable. It is likely that long before a bridge actually collapsed, it would have started to vibrate in a most alarming fashion, whereat even the most disciplined of soldiers would have done what anyone would do - run like fury in no particular rhythm at all for the nearest end. This, of course, would end the resonance effect, and the bridge would soon stablise. This over-simplification is intended to include as many musical terms as possible, in order that Zenith's analogy may more readily be perceived. Good puzzle  |
thankyou Woubit. That is indeed correct
* * * * * SPOILER * * * * * Additionly, the concept of music was the rythmic pattern of the march, which, as Woubit pointed out, may be at the same frequency as the natural frequency of the bridge. Hence, Yvette and the other soldiers broke step, 'stopping the music' as it is now arythmic and chaotic, with no fundamental frequency - white noise. |
