In the same instant, she correctly guessed his taste in music and knew he was about to be very disappointed. this may require knowledge of a specific bit of trivia to finish, but don't let that stop you from making a start |

Sounds like there's a misunderstanding going on, in that he took a particular word/phrase to mean a certain thing but it meant something else, is that on the right track? Anything about periods/genres of music (e. g. Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Contemporary, Pop, Dance, Rap/Hip-Hop, Ska, Disco, Grunge, House, Heavy Metal etc.)? A particular instrument relevant (e. g. serpent)? |

Is their location relevant? Are they at a concert? A music store? Is he going to be disappointed because some certain music will not suit his taste? |

Contemporary composers...like singer/songwriters? Does he realize she is guessing about his taste in music? Does she actually say something out loud to him? Where they are: Public property? Private? (from here down...feel free to only repost answers that aren't no...this list gets lengthy...) Work? One of the their homes? A store? A resturant? On public transit? At an airport? On the street? Sporting event? School? Mutual friend's property? Tourist Attraction? A retail establishment? Government facility? Hospital? Post office? (Okay I will stop torturing you now...hopefully there was one yes in there somewhere....) |

Is he confusing a different phrase/word with the name of a composer? yes I think I will spoil this one soon, it just was too trivia-based to make for a good puzzle. But as an accomplished French Hornist, maybe you can still salvage it.. quick, make a list of 20th Century composers whose name could be misinterpreted as a pop culture reference and maybe he'll be there! |

Actually, I could also narrow it down some--US composer? Western Europe? Eastern Europe? South America? Canadia? Composed mainly for piano? Orchestra? Wind ensembles? Voice? Composed mostly songs? Symphonies? Concerti? Tone Poems? Has his/her work ever been in a Disney film? |

Composed mostly songs? Symphonies? probably this, though he did other types of works as well Concerti? Tone Poems? Has his/her work ever been in a Disney film? I'm not sure.. but it has been in at least one commercial anything Spring to mind? think I'd better just spoil soon as I'm going out of town. |

Funny, I was just thinking about him in the context of this puzzle because my wife just did a concert which included, among other things, Rodeo, so she had a cd in her car...he's one of my favorites, actually. Although your hint first made me think of Igor. Copland, eh? He heard someone (her?) say something which sounded like they were going to cope? Something like that? |

Although your hint first made me think of Igor. glad you eventually got it Rite ok, I can finally spoil! * SPOILER * Standing in line at the cinema ticket window she noticed his unusual pronunciation of the film's title, and knew he would be disappointed not to see a biography of 20th-C composer Aaron but the Stallone vehicle
. yes, I was thinking of "beef- it's what's for dinner" re the commercial. I notice the "pork- the other white meat" campaign totally lacks a sweeping orchestral score, and strangely chicken (which apparently must be "the" white meat) seems to have had no enormous advertising blitz at all. |
