Reg realised he was doing the same as last time, but wanted it different. But he also realised that last time it was different whereas this time it would be the same |

"it" = what Reg was doing? he wanted it different: from last time? from usual? from something else? last time it was different: from this time? from the previous time? from usual? from something else? from what he wanted it different from? this time it would be the same: as last time? as the time before last? as usual? as something else? as what he wanted it different from? as what it was different from last time? Is "it" a tangible object? an action? Is Reg a human being? |

So he wished it should be different in the same way, but it wasn't? ;) It was rather the same in a different way? Was "it" an action he made? someone else? something else? |

Did he and this "someone else" do the action together? not at the same place, but simultaneously? independently of each other? Is it relevant who this "someone else" is? Is it one specific person? male? female? a group of persons? |

So Elton John married a woman, and wanted "it" to be different. Last time "it" was different and this time with David Furnish "it" is the same. So..."it" is the gender of the spouse? Different from what it actually was, different from his, same as his? |

Different from what it actually was, different from his, same as his? **************spoiler*********** As Mosquito correctly identified, Reg is Reginald Dwight - better known as Elton John. He is the first person in the UK to have been legally married to both a woman and a man. So in the context of the puzzle statement - "Reg realised he was doing the same as last time, but wanted it different. " i.e he is getting married again but now wants a different outcome - i.e not to get divorced again. "But he also realised that last time it was different whereas this time it would be the same" - Last time his partner was a different sex from him, this time it was the sam sex" Thanks to everybody who played - especially Mosquito |
