WOO. GO MIKE! *Cough*. I mean.... Is the christmas he decided to skip the same christmas as the one he realised was the best ever? Is it that he just decided to skip a christmas then decided that christmas of say, 10 years ago, was better? |

Did he celebrate the fact that he wasn't going to celebrate xmass, and by doing so, realised that he'd had a better time than what he would have done at xmass? |

so I'm assuming he was quitting SOMETHING and there was a holiday tradition-one related to christmas feast-which would make it harder for him to quite? going with that line of reasoning; was he stop drinking? and there was a tradition of a toast and/or alcholic eggnog that would make that difficult? alternativly was he going on a diet or giving up a particular type of food he would of been tempted to eat at the feast |
