The reason for my thinking an aural connection was your reply to Tim earlier...

Were you thinking of the dates? mostly this Looking at the dates? Talking about the dates? Hearing the dates? but please clarify when

So you are thinking about a date, but got it confused with another... when you said that historical dates are important...are we talking about say dates of kings (eg Queen Elizabeth 1952-present)? or dates of actual events (battle of hastings 1066 for example)?

The reason for my thinking an aural connection was your reply to Tim earlier... oh. Sorry

Were you thinking of the dates? mostly this Looking at the dates? Talking about the dates? Hearing the dates? but please clarify when

So you are thinking about a date, but got it confused with another... not exactly when you said that historical dates are important...are we talking about say dates of kings (eg Queen Elizabeth 1952-present)? or dates of actual events (battle of hastings 1066 for example)? two dates of actual events are relevant, and they are no way as history-historical as 1066

relevant people, were there many? 1? 2? ... 100? 1000? etc.. a matter of definition really. Different people were involved in the two events. No one else directly involved in my almost hitting my head

"I almost hit my head. And I'm not sure the dates helped."

Do you mean that the dates not only possibly did not help in you not hitting your head, but actually almost made you hit your head?

This "almost hitting your head into something", were you (almost) walking straight into something? bending down and almost hit your head? straightening up after having been bent, and almost hit your head?

Were you looking for something? for someone?

I'm still interested, although a hint would be most welcome. :)

"almost hit my head on the ceiling" is that an exaggeration, or literally true? Did you literally jump?
When you were checking dates, were you looking at the day of the jumping? Other days? Should something have happened on the jump day? Not happened? Did you realise that you had forgotten something?

Oh, bother. This is going nowhere. I am going round in circles, and so is Katy and everybody else, it seems. So here goes:

********** SPOILER *****************

I sat peacefully reading an old American girls' book (I rather like girls' books, the older the better, as a rule). Now the main protagonist and her best friend occupied themselves by decorating a small Christmas tree for the latter's little brother at the former's home. Then they went off to the latter's home with the little tree with its strange fruit...
At which point I jumped straight up from the chair and almost hit my head on the ceiling. I have a very clear idea of what "strange fruit" means, and it's emphatically not about Christmas trees and gifts on these. (If anybody reading this is too young to know what I'm talking about, google "strange fruit".) As I landed in the chair I thought "But perhaps the book is older than the song?" But it wasn't. Not much younger either, so the best possible explanation was that the author tried to take the expression back - or possibly hadn't heard the song, but that seems unlikely.
