Food relevant? construction relevant? a room relevant? (3 1/2 sides of a room is typically "wall" space...is this relevant?) is this task-oriented, or is it simply by confirming the existence of 3 1/2 sides it is complete? |

When "it" is complete, how many sides will it have? 4? 5? 6? 7? 8? 9? 10? More than 10? Is "it" a real, physical object? Is it tangible? Will it be tangible when it is complete? If so, will it be bigger than, say, a cat - when it is complete? When complete, will it be more than double its original size? Less than double? Exactly double? Can it be completed by a human being? Are any special skills needed to complete it? Is minute steak relevant? In fact, is the title relevant at all? |

A refresh to try and get this kick started - didnt think it was that challenging Three and half sides makes it complete. What do we know so far? 4 sides? Sort of hence the yope, but it is complete at 3 and a half sides Steak in the title? Is a cryptic clue, but you have to get close to the answer to realise it Task? It is a task Religious? Not directly. History? Yes it is definately historical. However the task was done, is done, and will be done in the future. I hope that helps without someone getting the answer immediately. |

Yope Would there be any point in wearing it if you weren't involved in this task? Yope Or if you didn't have the special skills? Yope Use is more important than wear but it would be worn. It could be worn by someone not doing the task, and someone who couldnt do the task. It is however unlikely that this would happen. |

My first post... Does the special equipment have a practical function required for the task? Is it ceremonial? Does it indicate the status of the wearer in some way? Is it heavy? The "sides" - are they concepts, e.g. sides to a debate? A measurement? Do they have a fixed size? Of distance? time intervals? |

Does the approach to the task move in steps: - 1 - 2 - 3 - 3 1/2 - done? or smaller increments? Only 1 person performs the task - Just any person (though only one at any given time)? Or a specific type of person in a position to do this? Or only one actual person, e.g. Jesus? |

This may be the last bit: does 3 1/2 sides refer to the fact that the Trumpeter of Krakow sounds his alarum in three directions from three sides of the tower, then breaks off halfway through the piece while facing the fourth direction on the fourth side? Nice leap to the probable solution, crazypalpig!! |

OOOOOWWWWWWW Please stop me laughing. I was away for the weekend - enjoying the outdoors, the sun, and blasting my car up any mountain pass I could find ************SPOILER******************** Crazypalpig got it. And Mycroft figured out the cryptic title. This does refer to the Trumpeter (actualy a Bugle) of Krakow. On the hour the Trumpeter would ascend the church tower and play the Hymm of Our Lady to the 4 winds. In 1241 he was playing this and on the East Side he noticed a rather large horde of Tartars. He kept playing to awaken the city and get them out to defend. The Tartars are not only renowned as rather nifty horsemen but also useful archers. Our clever trumpeter tragically made contact with one such arrow - the arrow unfortunately travelling at such speed that by using his neck to catch the arrow proved fatal. His actions were smart enough and quick enough that the town defended the attack and the tartars were sent home. Upto the present day, a trumpeter plays the Hymm of our Lady on the hour every hour to the 4 winds. When he plays the east wind he stops half way through - IE 3 1/2 sides is complete. The trumpeters are all members of the Krakow fire service. That was my first puzzle, hope you enjoyed it - it might prove challenging to come up with another one!!! |
