An easy one, that should go fast, while I work on some harder ones... As a huge fire was creeping through the woods towards my house, I calmly sat on the couch and watched television, and refused to call the fire department. Why? |

Were you calmly watching your house in the woods, and the fire, on the television in your other house - and looking forward to collecting the insurance money the following day? |

Oh well - worth a shot. Were the woods burning? Was it a real fire? (as opposed to, say, something in a painting) Was it happening as you sat on the couch? Were you aware of it? Did you expect it to reach the house? Did you expect someone else to call the fire department? Had someone else already called the fire department? Did the woods stretch all the way from the fire to the house? Was there an obstacle blocking its path? Were you in the house? Did you want the house to be burned? |

So you were sitting on your couch watching TV when someone told you that there was a fire in the woods creeping towards your house, but you didn't believe them - correct so far? Was this person also in the house? Did they call you on the phone? Was it a child? Was it a known practical joker? |

Was the fire creeping towards your house very slowly? Was there something between your house and the woods which would be likely to prove a difficult barrier for the fire? Like a lake? Or canyon? |

to recap - you are sitting in your wooden house which is adjacent to the woods where there is a fire of reasonable size coming towards you. There are no obstacles between your house and the fire. You have been made aware of the fire by your mother, but are choosing not to believe her This all right so far? What is left to get? |

sorry, that one didn't make sense. If the fire was on TV it wouldn't cause you not to believe her. Did something in her demeanour cause you not to believe your mother? Something about the way she told you? The phrasing she used? Or the manner of her voice? |

Was it the 1st of april? YES! *************SPOILER********************** I had always prided myself on never falling for an Arpil fools joke. This particular April Fools Day, I was sitting watching TV when my mom rushed into the room screaming that the backyard was on fire!! I said, "Yeah right, like I'm gonna fall for that" she kept trying to convince me and I refused to even look out the window to lend any credence to her lame attempt at fooling me. It wasn't until she physically lifted my from the couch and forced me to look out the window that I saw this huge fire (which had been accidentally set by an idiot trying to burn leaves during a drought) coming toward the house, and my dad and a few neighbors trying to hold it back with garden hoses! Quite an April Fools Day! |
