An old man, a young man, and a teenager walk into a restoraunt. The waitress who is serving them is chatting with them, and happens to ask their birthdays. The old man, the young man, and the teenager look at each other before replying, "November 7th." in unison. The waitress comments on how long the odds are for that, and the teen says, "Not really. You see, we're triplets." How is this possible?

Ps. They're all telling the truth.

Ooh, nice premise.
Are they triplets in the sense that they were born of the same mother? At the same time? Are leap years relevant? Relevant that the birthdate is November 7th?
Could this take place today? 100 years ago? 1000 years ago (assuming there was an accessible restaurant)?

Is there only one time period it could be in?
Anything supernatural involved? Was the growth of one or more of them retarded somehow? Are they the same age?

Would Albert have any trouble solving this puzzle?

It sounds so familiar...is it from science fiction? A theory? An actual space exploration?

I seem to recall something like that in one of the Star Trek series. Can't remember which one, though.

well, how's about...
Three triplets are born, one goes on a short journey at near-light speed, another goes on a long journey at near-light speed. The one who stays behind ages to become an old man, the one on the shorter journey comes back & ages to become middle-aged, the far-traveller comes back still a young man. (I think it's this way round, but I'm no rocket scientist :-)) Then they go into a bar...

Lovely work, if no one gets the title connection, I'll post it this afternoon.

The question about Albert was my lame attempt to find out if Einstein's Theory of Relativity was relevant without actually mentioning it, so as not to spoil for everybody else quite so fast, if that's what it turned out to be...

Sorry to be a bit late about this, but the reference to self-dealing stem bolts is from Star Trek. That is one of the few Sci-fi's I can think of that don't even bother with the whole time bending at above light speed blerg, although I am sure there are many more. Additional irony is that the specific series that the stem bolts come from is the only one of all the Star Trek series that does not need to bother with this because of eveyone staying on the station the whole time. (Deep Space Nine, for those who care)

Yeah, a bit long winded and streching things, but if anyone knows what a sssb is, I'd welcome the info. Guesses are free game too. Thanks again for playing. Never woulda expected this one to go so fast.

got in to the puzzle late, but it made me curious... if the mother had given birth to triplets while herself travelling at extreme speed, could it be said that these three triplets were born years apart, at least from the perspective of someone on earth? (though not different in age to the eye as this puzzle).

Say if she called home at the first birth, then (from her perspective) gave birth to the second after an hour and called home again, where significantly more time had passed... ?

Aaaggghhh...mind reeling with strange possible implications of extreme speed...
This kind of thing makes me want to go back to school and study theoretical physics.

And if the mother is going into labour just as she sets off on her journey, the nervous father will have to spend a long, long time pacing..

one more - if daddy shoots off into space while mommy delivers children on earth, he would return younger than his children, no?
