It's 7AM and I'm trying to sleep, but this puzzle started forming in my brain, so here it is:

(And no, this isn't a puzzle about puzzle making or anything...)

Bill wakes up angry in the middle of the night, but a few minutes later goes back to sleep peacefully. Joe goes to sleep that same night peacefully, but within minutes of waking up is angry.
What is going on?

Hmm, interesting.
Are they both angry over the same thing? Is Bill angry with Joe? Is Joe angry with Bill?
To clarify: Does Joe sleep the whole night and wake up angry in the morning? Or is he woken during the night?
Is Bill woken by a noise? A light? Does he remember something and wake up? Does he simply wake by chance?

This is sounding a bit like a classic...

So Bill woke up first (angry) and then went back to sleep? And Joe woke up next and became angry after waking? Was Joe snoring? Making some other noise in his sleep? Are they in the same building? The same room? Was whatever woke Joe what made him angry? Was he also awakened by a noise?

Hey Bodo,
To my knowledge, this is not a classic, as it is a true story from my life, and I've read most of the LTP books out there.

So Bill woke up first (angry) and then went back to sleep? Yes.
And Joe woke up next and became angry after waking? Yes
Was Joe snoring? Nope
Making some other noise in his sleep? No
Are they in the same building? Yes
The same room? No
Was whatever woke Joe what made him angry? No
Was he also awakened by a noise? No

It's similar to a classic, but the questions have ruled that answer out.
Is Bill still angry when he falls back asleep? Is he angered by the noise that wakes him? Does Bill do something before falling back asleep? If so, does Joe notice it in the morning?

Is Bill sleeping when Joe wakes up?
Is Joe waking up the time he normally would?
Was Bill supposed to sleep through that night?
Are they normally responsible for waking up the other person

When Bill is awake in the night:
- does Bill ever enter Joes room?
- are Bill and Joe alone in their rooms? If not is there another person?/animal?/Christmas ghost?
- is anything moved from Bills room to Joes room?
- is anything moved from Joes room to Bills room?

Is Bill waking up because of:
- sound
- light
- touch
- smell
- taste
- hunch
- feeling cold/warm
- nightmare
- no particular reason. He just wakes up

Are the rooms next to each other? Within hearing range? Are the rooms visible from each other?
Was the sound loud enough that Bill had woken up if he was sleeping in Joe's at the time?
Is the building where they work? a residential house? hotel? office? religious building?
Was the sound fixed to a location or did it move around? Did the sound come from different sources?

****SPOILER****
With this combination of questions, you guy and gals have got it. Bill (AKA: ME) is woken up in the middle of the night by his neighbor Joe turning the dryer on which is directly below his bed. He gets up, goes and turns the dryer off. Joe goes down in the morning to get his nice dry clothes, and... oops! They are all still wet! He got the point pretty quick. No laundry when I'm trying to sleep. :o)
