Can we stick to auburn? It's a lovely colour. Or is the relevant colour closer to red, and this is relevant? So you wanted to dye a stripe in your hair in colour A? and got colour B? Did you want auburn and got sapphire? Or maybe the case is such that you didn't see a sample, and the colour's name suggested a reddish colour, but it was actually quite different? Any mistranslations involved? Engrish? Is the experience in the puzzle lovely or horrible?:D |

Does your natural hair and your grey hair react differently to the dye? Is the blue in your grey? |

Still not sure about something...when you dyed your hair previously, did you encounter the same problem, with your grey hair reacting differently to the dye? Is it the first time you are using this type of dye? Is there anything else we need to figure out? |

Are you just starting to have your first grey hairs? Is this the reason why you wanted to dye it this time? Did you think that covering grey hair with a nice color would be the minimum requirement of all hair dyes, and found out too late that this was not the case? |

Are you the kind of person who reads instructions carefully before using a product? What about in this case? Did you read the whole instruction before starting the process? Did you miss something you should do because you did not read all of it from start? Such as the back side? Was it different instructions for treating grey hair and naturally colored hair? No instructions or warnings at all? Was it written in small print so it was impossible to read or easily missed? |

Did the instruction say that you would actually get a different color if you used it on grey hair? Was it a color that you thought would not be such a big deal? Orange? |

By deliberately not following some of the instruction, your greys turned blue? So whatever was not followed was the root cause of the "blued" greys? Was this left-out bit of instruction part of the pre-treatment process? the actual dye treatment process? the rinse process? Anything to do with length of time you kept the dye in your hair? Did you follow all the instructions in previous hair dye attempt, and did all your hair turn out to be the same colour during the previous attempt? |

One last crack at it? The instruction says you should test it for actual effect, because resulting colour may differ for different people? |

****** SPOILER ******** I have henna'ed my hair several times, using so-called brown or auburn henna, because the red seems a little too red. But it was a few years since last time, and meanwhile I have developed one grey strand, almost right in front (which bothered me until a very nice woman said "Oh, have you bleached a strand? Cool!"). This time I had found a new type of henna, which comes in a cake instead of a powder, and the instructions said that you should test on a strand first (hah! thought I, it never was any problem before) and be sure to include a grey strand when testing, because they would become bright red (well, thought I, but I only have that one strand, barring individual white hairs). So I went along, without having tested, and the hair became nicely dark reddish brown, except for the grey strand, which turned blue-black. But it only shows in bright light, and I decided it looks cool. And what would have been the point of testing? The grey, now blue, strand still is almost right in front! Besides, when checking the ingredient list, I found it contained, among other things, Red Henna (Lawsonia inermis) and Black Henna (Indigofera tinctoria), which latter one I learnt to call not henna but indigo. So it shouldn't have been a surprise. |
