Can we stick to auburn? It's a lovely colour. Or is the relevant colour closer to red, and this is relevant? So you wanted to dye a stripe in your hair in colour A? and got colour B? Did you want auburn and got sapphire? Or maybe the case is such that you didn't see a sample, and the colour's name suggested a reddish colour, but it was actually quite different? Any mistranslations involved? Engrish? Is the experience in the puzzle lovely or horrible?:D | ||

Did it matter whether it was rinsed or washed with hot or cold water? Was it very old? had it been in your cupboard for years, losing its packaging and instructions, just retaining the word auburn or whatever? Might there have been a use by date on the packaging? Is the section of hair you dyed relevant to what happened? The amount of dye you used? | ||

Is your natural colour really the "dark blond" from your profile? Did this mean you left it on too long? You shouldn't have used it at all? Were you dying all your hair except one or more highlights? Was the dye henna? Did you mix with cold water instead of hot? Other way round? Same for rinsing? | ||

By deliberately not following some of the instruction, your greys turned blue? So whatever was not followed was the root cause of the "blued" greys? Was this left-out bit of instruction part of the pre-treatment process? the actual dye treatment process? the rinse process? Anything to do with length of time you kept the dye in your hair? Did you follow all the instructions in previous hair dye attempt, and did all your hair turn out to be the same colour during the previous attempt? | ||

****** SPOILER ******** I have henna'ed my hair several times, using so-called brown or auburn henna, because the red seems a little too red. But it was a few years since last time, and meanwhile I have developed one grey strand, almost right in front (which bothered me until a very nice woman said "Oh, have you bleached a strand? Cool!"). This time I had found a new type of henna, which comes in a cake instead of a powder, and the instructions said that you should test on a strand first (hah! thought I, it never was any problem before) and be sure to include a grey strand when testing, because they would become bright red (well, thought I, but I only have that one strand, barring individual white hairs). So I went along, without having tested, and the hair became nicely dark reddish brown, except for the grey strand, which turned blue-black. But it only shows in bright light, and I decided it looks cool. And what would have been the point of testing? The grey, now blue, strand still is almost right in front! Besides, when checking the ingredient list, I found it contained, among other things, Red Henna (Lawsonia inermis) and Black Henna (Indigofera tinctoria), which latter one I learnt to call not henna but indigo. So it shouldn't have been a surprise. |
