When the disgruntled workers joined in the celebrations they did not know they were starting a new tradition. What was it? |

**** SPOILER ***** Peter, anything to do with ticker tape parades? YES On October 28th 1886 the Statue of Liberty was unveiled in New York. It was declared a public holiday but banks and other financial institutions did not give employees the day off. Disgruntled workers joined in by throwing out of their office windows the spools of narrow paper on which stock prices were written. The spools unwound as they came down from the tall buildings and the tradition of the ticker tape parade was born. I hope you liked this one. Details of my books are here: http://destination-innovation.com/lateral_thinking_puzzles.cfm regards Paul Sloane |
