Is the cause of his death: poisoning? choking? a violent reaction of another person? a less direct cause, like heart attack? Does "luxurious" refer to the types and cost of food, or does it also include the environment where he eats his breakfast? Is it one particular ( last ) meal that caused the death and ruined two lives, or is it more of a habit that leads to these events? Were the lives ruined because of Carl's death, or were there other causes? |

Was the barrister defending the other man whose life was ruined? Then he lost so the barrister's life was rined because he had lost, and the secind man's life was ruined because he was sent to jail? Or was the barrister prosecuting someone ans failed to convict them? You say their lives were ruined at once, so was the court case happening while Carl was making breakfast and dying? Is it relevant that he was electrocuted with a toaster, or would any situation in which he died work? Was there any suspicion that Carl's death was not an accident? |

SPOILER : Carl was taking his breakfast in the bathtub with toaster propped nearby. Somehow, he knocked the toaster into the bath, electrocuting himself and blowing the power for his grid. The barrister was, at the time, defending a client who was accused of computer-related fraud of some irrelevant sort, when he finally found evidence on the accused's computer that would prove his client to be not guilty -- until the power surge. The hard disk was fried by the surge, destroying the only evidence in the client's favour ... so the client was convicted and imprisoned (his life) and the barrister always knew about the evidence that would have saved his most unlucky man ... Wow, sorry this was so easy. I have a new (harder) puzzle at page bottom. |
