Is Hull City really unique?
Is it unique because of something about:
their results?
their players?
their equipment?
their clothes?
their symbol?
their employees (coach, manager etc)?

Their city of origin? no: they are the only league team from Hull but many teams can claim to be the only representative from their city so that is not why they are unique Their way of play? no
football: soccer or american football? soccer

Is there something unique about their name?

Is their uniqueness only obvious to you (as the teller of this puzzle)?

Or do many people recognize the same uniqueness? If so, is it only people who know the team well? Or can anyone with a passing knowledge of the team recognize it?

had they been through a hardship?

had they always been in Hull? in other words,
had they originally been in Hull, then the team moved somewhere else, and now they are back in Hull?

By "English football teams", do you mean only those teams that play in the Premiership, the Championship, League One and League Two? Or do you mean all English football teams? Or some other subset thereof?

By "English football teams", do you mean only those teams that play in the Premiership, the Championship, League One and League Two? the way this was phrased when my mate asked me was League teams i.e Prem, Championship, 1st & 2nd Division Or do you mean all English football teams? Or some other subset thereof? i should confess however not having checked this uniqueness against non-league clubs so consider them out of scope

The letters making up "Hull City" contain no closed curves. I have not examined the entire list of teams, but I will hazard a guess that "Hull City" is the only name with this property.

**************Spoiler*************

Were you ever at a really boring meeting and amused yourself by colouring in the closed curves in letters. If like me the answer is yes then you will have great fun with the 96 english league teams. All except Hull City of course who are "colouring in proof" as it were. My friend actually asked me this question in reverse and i got hull pretty quickly however given the calibre of minds on the forum i thought i'd make it a little harder. An honour to have one solved by your good self Woubit. Have a good weekend all

Well, you might have a bit of difficulty colouring in the four that don't actually exist. Whereas there used to be 96 teams in the English Football League (24 in each of four divisions) there are now only 20 teams in the Premiership and 92 teams in all.

Still, it is good to see that there is someone else who remembers the days when Division One meant what it said.
