Does the volume of water increase? Does the level go up due to displacement? Does something relavant happen before the fish dies? Does something relavant happen after the fish dies? |

Was the dead fish taken out? Was it eaten by the other fishes? Relevant from what the fish died? Is the location of the pond relevant? Was it raining? Did water flow into the pond? Did the additional water result from melting snow or ice? |

Me being annoying: The waterlevel in the pond should not increase, because there wasn't any water added. The 9 fish only replaced some water, from the inside of their bodies to the outside. They didn't add anything. Annoying off. |

that's what lateral thinking is all about... fish can't even cry... but I must say, the thought has crossed my mind. Nice one ;-) |

A friend of mind gave another possible explanation...the 9 remaining fish became agitated when the 10th fish died. They swam around frantically and their movement heated the water which expanded, thereby slightly increasing the volume. Not certain if this is solid science but it's in the ballpark. |

<code>A friend of mind gave another possible explanation...Not certain if this is solid [no pun intended? :-)] science but it's in the ballpark.</code> It's solid. You get about 0.0002 ml increase in volume per degree increase for a gram of water. <smilely> |
