Did the soldiers get bigger?
Did the heat come from an oven?

I remember a small, clear, flat plastic filmlike object (this was when I was a child), that I painted and put into the oven. When the heat from the oven came into contact with this "object" it would expand. Anything like this?

Not sure where that FA to Woodworm's question came in...did he put the plastic soldiers in the microwave?
Did the soldiers being heated make them harder in some way?
Did he know that heating his soldiers would make them more powerful? Did he mean to heat them at all?

Does the size of the object matter? Yope - the type of object this is comes in a relatively narrow range of sizes. But if it was, hypothetically, the same type of object but a different size, it could still have worked.

Also, I might have accidentally misled ou a bit when I said it was a type of "toy". While it is used primarily it is not generally used by itself - it is usually used with other types of objects.

Since you started mine off, I'll return the favor, Alex.

To recap:
A plastic "toy", generally used with other things, was heated, but not completely melted in a microwave oven. This made plastic soldiers "more powerful" / stronger, for svv of stronger.

The toy that was heated is small, generally cubic, between 1 and 2 cm in size [1/2 to 1 inch] and generally used with other types of objects.

Right so far?

Was the item he heated a die? a set of dice? If yes, did the heating make them sag just a little bit, so that they no longer rolled randomly?

Were the plastic soldiers used in a war game? Did having loaded dice make favorable rolls more likely?

I admit, as a former wargamer myself, I was pretty sure about that once you said "cubic", and I suspected that you wanted this puzzle finished off since it had dried up. Nice one, though.
