Last year, I did something, intending it as a joke. A month later, I found out that I had successfully done something that many people who have spent their careers trying to do have failed miserably at. |

careers have been built in pursuit of your achievement? Not really. The original statement of the article may have been a little confusing. There are very few people whose careers are solely devoted to trying to do the kind of thing I did, and the few that are usually do it pretty successfully. But there are lots of people who's careers involve doing it to some extent, and many of them don't succeed often. A further hint: Most science-fiction authors do this in the course of their writing, some successfully, some not successfully, but only some of them think of doing this as what they are trying to do when writing. you wrote a full-length novel as a joke? Not really "as a joke", but it was supposed to be humorous. In any case, not really that relevant, although it might give you some cluse as to what specifically I did. is it an idea? a concept? a solution? An idea or a concept the achievement is computer related? PC related? software related? it focuses on something completely different? The particular type of thing I did was somewhat software related, although people try to do the type of thing I did with many different kinds of technology |

ok, I was never great at science and it was ages since I took a science class, so forgive me for looking up "potential energy" in the dictionary... does it have to do with batteries? force fields/shields? gravity? |

Any relevance to Microsoft? Microsoft programs in general? a particular Microsoft program or set of programs? Microsoft taking over the world? Your Potential is our Passion? CORRECT! And since being made by Microsoft is the only relevant aspect of the robot-controlling software, I think we can post the... Spoiler In my story, a scientist stops an out-of-control alien robot by installing "Microsoft Robot" software on it. This causes the robot to freeze up (like so many Microsoft programs do) and then it is fixed when they turn it off and turn it back on. The next month in Scientific American I read an article claiming that Microsoft was actually developing technology to program robots (google "Microsoft Robotics Studio".) Hence I successfully predicted that Microsoft would enter the robot business. |

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to kill this one. I was just being kind of silly. I didn't realize that Microsoft actually uses "Your potential is our passion" at all. |
