Force of attraction between molecules overcomes any translational motion of molecules (they do, however, vibrate in position). ? or is it something else? Since it was "not-un-balloonlike", The qualities of the container which make it "not-un-balloonlike": Are they physical qualities of the material? non-permeability to air? non-permeability to water? elasticity? is it made from latex? or rubber? Are they visual qualities? size? color? dimensions? Was it a plastic bag? If so, trash bag-sized (capacity measured in tens of gallons or hundreds of liters?) a liner bag? (capacity in single-digit gallons?) a food-storage bag? (capacity at or under 2 gallons/10 liters?) a sandwich bag? (capacity under 1 quart/liter?) "Not really an explosion": were you using "explosion" in the strict scientific sense here? (A sudden, almost instantaneous release of of pressure, gas, heat and light when subjected to sudden shock, pressure, high temperature or applied potential?) You said that it probably isn't on any short lists of containers. Does this mean that most people would never see one? that most people wouldn't think of it as a container? What's your best guess at what the probability is that an average person picked at random from the population has seen one: Less than 10%? 10% to 25%? 25% to 50%? 50% to 75%? 75% to 95% greater than 95%? If I saw one under the most likely scenario, would it be empty? prefilled? Could it be refilled at a factory or by a business? Could I refill it? would I be likely to want to? | ||

I'm getting a little confused--is the flour in the piece of surgical tubing? Is the tubing on the road? and the car drives over it? and then the flour explodes and lands on the car behind the one he is in? if the above is correct, are we trying to figure out how the flour got into the tubing? can't remember--was this done as a prank? as a test of some sort? were they trying to figure out how durable the tubing was? did anyone in either car know about the tubing? the flour? the "he" in all of this--is he simply an observer? or does he have anything to do with the flour? the tube? after the flour exploded, did either car stop? did they try to figure out what the flour was? did they hear the explosion and think they had hit something? a bomb? were they scared at the explosion--and then they laughed because they realized it was just flour? did "he" laugh when telling the story because of the look of the flour hitting the car? at the fact that they might have been scared at first and the relief that it was just flour? | ||

The tubing: could I most buy it at a food store? an office supply store? a hardware store? a building supply store? a gardening supply store? a clothing store? a sporting goods store? an appliance store? a furniture store? Would I be most likely to use it in my garden? my garage? my car? my office? myt house? If 'my house', in which room is it most likely to be: kitchen? bathroom? bedroom? living room? workshop or hobby area? near my computer? in a closet or storage area? Is its diameter under 1/2 inch? under 1 inch? under 2 inches? under 5 inches? under one foot? Was the length that he ran over under 1 foot long? under 2 feet? under 3 feet? under 10 feet? under 50 feet? Was it sealed or closed off at both ends? at only one end? open on both ends? So, it's that ribbed flexi-hose that comes in rolls that you can use for pretty much anything? That's cool stuff. Or was it drip hose? That's even cooler... Anyway, did the hose have holes in it (besides the ones at either end, of course!)? so that when the car drove over it, the flour puffed out through the perforations in little flour fountains? | ||

Was the hose running from a flour truck to the bakery building? from an outdoor storage tank to inside the building? Driving over the hose caused the explosion of flour, but the hose didn't split (did it burst at all? tear?) and the flour didn't shoot out of one or both ends. So: Did the flour that covered the car actually come from the hose? or did it come from one of the things the hose was hooked up to? Did his driving over the hose pull it loose from the connection at one end? He was laughing at how something looked as a result of the flour explosion: did the flour cover a large area? many other cars? the truck? the truck driver? the bakery building itself? | ||

Perhaps the person who "liked him very much" was doing a wedding or something like a party, and they wanted a big white Poof to go off, or use it instead of rice, in the case of a wedding. They hooked the hose full of flour up to the bakery so it had a nice flow of the puffy white stuff, then the man drove over it, but instead of shooting out beautifuly in one direction, the flour poofed out in a giant cloud all over the place to the great amusement of everyone present??? riiiight? ;] Or maybe the Mythbusters are involved somehow... | ||

As we were about to cross the yard and get out we saw that flour was being delivered by a large hose, threaded together from several pieces. The old baker told us to drive across it, no problem - but it must have been put together carelessly, because it came apart, and in half a moment flour covered the yard, our friends and our car, outside and inside, because the windows were all down. We couldn't help laughing even then, as we tried to clean the car enough for starting again, and The Flour Explosion was one of my father's favourite holiday stories for years to come. I don't think the car ever got free from flour inside. | ||
