Tobasi, as an ex-gymnast, I've racking my brains as to how a slowest moving hand would cause an arm to move fast whilst on a bar, but can't think of anything... did you have a reason behind the longshot? |

Well, I was thinking that you keep your hands mostly at the horizontal bar so they barely move. The arms however are a bit farer away from the rotation axis so they move faster: speed = distance_from_rotation_axis * constant_angular_speed By the way, the feet move still faster. Just a physicians view on gymnastics. Is it a parlour game? A game you would typically play indoors? outdoors? Does it require any objects? Is the game played all over the world? in particular regions? Is it played mostly by children? adults? |

The slow hand attached to the fast arm. Are speeds relative to each other or to another reference, i.e is the arm moving fast relative to the hand? Extending Tobasi physics, does some other part of the body move faster still? Is the whole arm moving fast? the forearm? elbow? upperarm? Is he playing twister, and his centre of gravity moves beyond that of his hand and consequently he loses his balance; he tries to move his arm to counter, but underestimates the frictional coefficient and maximum frictional resistance between his hand and the surface? Consequently his hand doesn't move, but the rest of him does, especially his arm... |

TOBASI Well, I was thinking that you keep your hands mostly at the horizontal bar so they barely move. The arms however are a bit farer away from the rotation axis so they move faster: speed = distance_from_rotation_axis * constant_angular_speed By the way, the feet move still faster. Just a physicians view on gymnastics. You're right, of course, I was merely thinking from the gymnasts view, knowing that the hands moves at different speeds during different parts of the swing, and no part of the body has constant angular speed due body position changing in order to tap(kick) which keeps one swinging. At some points of a swing, as you said, the hands barely move, at others, they snap round the bar very fast indeed, and get ahead of the arms, which was the part of the swing i was thinking about. AND NOW, TO THE POINTY END OF YOUR POST Is it a parlour game? NO A game you would typically play indoors? YES outdoors? NO Does it require any objects? YES Is the game played all over the world? COULD BE in particular regions? NO Is it played mostly by children? POSSIBLY adults? PROBABLY ZENITH The slow hand attached to the fast arm. Are speeds relative to each other CLARIFY PLEASE or to another reference, YES i.e is the arm moving fast relative to the hand? YES Extending Tobasi physics, does some other part of the body move faster still? NO Is the whole arm moving fast? NO the forearm? YOPE elbow?YOPE upperarm? NO Is he playing twister, NO and his centre of gravity moves beyond that of his hand and consequently he loses his balance; he tries to move his arm to counter, but underestimates the frictional coefficient and maximum frictional resistance between his hand and the surface? Consequently his hand doesn't move, but the rest of him does, especially his arm...... SO NO SIXTYEIGHT were the slow movement of hand and fast movement of arm simultaneous movements? YESish were they sequential movements? NOish was there something relevant in between the hand and arm movement? NO BOOKLOVER is the title important? NO, it is connected in my mind, but is largely irrelevent was he the last person to laugh? PROBABLY, BUT IRR to get a joke? NO was the slow hand trying to cover up his mouth in a laugh? NO was his arm moving to block something? NOsomebody? NO did he hit his funny bone by any chance? NO was this a group game? YES were two teams playing against each other? So his arm moved fast as he was being shocked? YES, and SPOILER. the game involves a central device run on batteries, connected via wires to four handheld devices with a single button. When the game is started the central device starts flashing lights and making sounds. when this stops, you must push the button. Last person to push the button gets an electric shock, and if anyone pushes their button too early, they receive the shock. I had a little difficulty with the questions about whether the actions were simultaneous or sequential, but i hope this (my first puzzle) was enjoyable! |
