Would it help us to think of "factor" (in your title) in its mathematical sense? Is one age exactly divisible by the other? Does "creepy" simply mean curious, or is there something more sinister going on? Was either person born on February 29? | ||

Does this have anything to do with the "half his age plus seven" rule?exactly! **SPOILER** My sister, who is 21, is dating a 34 year old. I was discussing this with my friend Courtney who brought up the "half his age plus seven" rule, according to which an age gap between two people dating is "creepy" or unacceptable unless the older person's age divided by 2, plus seven is less than or equal to the younger person's age. According to this rule, someone dating a 34 year old would need to be 24 or older, thus making my sister's relationship creepy. However, in 6 years, they will be 27 and 40 respectively, at which point their relationship won't be creepy anymore. Ironically, on a side note, my last relationship began when I was 21 and my boyfriend 31, putting us in the creepy range. The year we became no longer creepy (me 24 and him 34) is the year we broke up! | ||

Heheh. One of those pure coincidences: I was reading yesterday about 'inappropriate age-gaps', and how Rupert Murdoch, now a sprightly 76, will have to wait another twelve years before his marriage to Wendy Deng (now 39) is officially out of the creepy zone. Then I just realised that I got married at 30 to someone aged 21 (creepy, but only just) and divorced when we grew out of official creepiness. Anyway, great puzzle as always. |
