You said they were not isolated. But is there a reason why they can't simply walk off and get something else to eat? I'm sure people could, but that's irr. to this situation--it's more of a hypothetical situtation--but with a real fear of something happenening that would reduce us to "eating bread and water". You have figured out that we would be reduced to bread and water (but seriously this couldn't get to that point), but you have to figure out what would happen to cause this. This part might be hard--so put on your lateral thinking caps! Is location relevant?where this might happen, yes Anything relevant about the group?no |

Is the plot of the recent movie "Bee Movie" relevant at all? I don't think so, but I've never seen it...just checked the plot--no, honey not relevant... Is the cause of the bees' deaths the only remaining piece of information we have to find out?you need to find out this, but you also need to find out why we could possibly end up on a "bread and water" diet because of their deaths--which you basically stated in your 11/16 post. |

Ditto fruits for juices or wine?certain fruits would be effected, but not relevant to drinking Would the coffee bean die off?no, but I don't think honey bees have anything to do with coffe beans Or tea leaves? same for thisOr is that irrelevant as you could still import them?I'm sure you could import, but not relevant for this situation Would the effect only affect one continent? i'm sure it might effect another continent at some point, but it's not relevant to this situation The water will, be plain, or the bread? Relevant what you were going to have?no, this is not relevant...the only thing that is relevant is how we get to this situation hint: we already know it has to do with honeybees in north america and pollination...all the rest is to fill in the gaps--like what is happening to these honeybees and why they are so imporant |

Happening to the honeybees - are you talking about the mass hive collapse? For some unknown reason colonies of bees are dying out (maybe from non-indigenous parasites)... it's a world wide effect that has the environmental types freaked out. Farmers have even been forced to import bees because there just aren't enough pollinators out there - however, they're having the same problem everywhere in the world. This is important because, in theory, if the bees became extinct it would only take 4 years before humanity became extinct with them. |

Farmers have even been forced to import bees because there just aren't enough pollinators out there - however, they're having the same problem everywhere in the world. This is important because, in theory, if the bees became extinct it would only take 4 years before humanity became extinct with them. Colony Collapse Disorder (found the title) and all the problems associated with it? That's it, exactly! (Though I didn't even notice the title "colony collapse disorder" myself until I scanned the article on which I based my puzzle.) The article I had first noticed was http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18442426/ which stated that "Unless someone or something stops it soon, the mysterious killer that is wiping out many of the nation's honeybees could have a devastating effect on America's dinner plate, perhaps even reducing us to a glorified bread-and-water diet." Apparently honeybees "pollinate more than 90 of the tastiest flowering crops we have" including "apples, nuts, avocados, soybeans, asparagus, broccoli, celery, squash and cucumbers. And lots of the really sweet and tart stuff, too, including citrus fruit, peaches, kiwi, cherries, blueberries, cranberries, strawberries, cantaloupe and other melons." Good job to dlcygnet for spoiling and to everyone else for asking some pertinent questions! Hope they can find this "mysterious killer" soon; I like bread, but not to live on! *** SPOILER *** |
