Do you read the spam mail? use it in any other way? Is any particular type of spam relevant? Is your internet access relevant (professional, at home, ...)? |

Tobasi Do you read the spam mail? Yope use it in any other way? Yes Is any particular type of spam relevant? Yes, for svv of "type" -- this has a potential to be misleading, so consider yourselves warned! Is your internet access relevant (professional, at home, ...)? No Tsoram1970 Is it because it proves your email program is working? No, but good thinking. |

forgot to ask--is reading spam part of your job? I noticed in your profile your job involves "computer stuff"...is this relevant? regarding the title--is it relevant? is the spam harmless? harmful? do they try to "maim" computers, and then maybe you catch them and "slap" the offenders with a fine? something else? |

Booklover are you somehow able to send the spam back to the person/organization who sent it? No do you "add something" to the spam--virus? something else? No do you send the spam to someone you know? someone you don't like? Neither of these Booklover, again forgot to ask--is reading spam part of your job? Good heavens, no! I noticed in your profile your job involves "computer stuff"...is this relevant? Thanks for pointing that out. I need to update that. regarding the title--is it relevant? Not really -- it's an anagram for "spam mail". is the spam harmless? harmful? do they try to "maim" computers, and then maybe you catch them and "slap" the offenders with a fine? something else? So this line of questioning is irrelevant. Wildcard You talking about spam mail that arrives electronically? Yes Spam mail that shows up in your physical mailbox with paper letters inside? No Deathateaster Is it to do with you internet service provider? Eg. You don't have to pay as much if you recieve *whatever* amount of e-mails a month? No, but interesting line of thought |

Is all spam mail of equal benefit in this regard? Would a mail with an attachment be more beneficial (or tolerable) to you than one without? Does it matter whether the mail is text-only or html? Are you planning revenge on the spammers? Are you using the spam for some sort of research? Is there an upper limit of tolerance (eg 300 mails a day)? Is the origin of the spam relevant? When you say you read the spam in a yopish way, does this simply mean that you read it briefly only to determine that it is spam? Do you use a spam filter? Do you tolerate the spam because it tests the filtering process? Is the language of the spam relevant? |

is there a relevant preference for quantity of spam? is 20 spam emails better than 1 spam email? if you received 20 spam emails, would you prefer 4 per day over 5 days.. over ..2 days with 10 spams each followed by 3 spamless days? is the above preference relevant? |

Woodworm Is all spam mail of equal benefit in this regard? No, but most of them do provide that benefit Would a mail with an attachment be more beneficial (or tolerable) to you than one without? It is irrelevant whether there is an attachment or not for the purposes of this puzzle. In practice, of course I "prefer" e-mails with no attachments for obvious reasons! Does it matter whether the mail is text-only or html? No -- good question Are you planning revenge on the spammers? No Are you using the spam for some sort of research? Yes, for svv of "research" Is there an upper limit of tolerance (eg 300 mails a day)? No Is the origin of the spam relevant? No When you say you read the spam in a yopish way, does this simply mean that you read it briefly only to determine that it is spam? Yope -- I do read it briefly, but not for the purposes of determining if it is spam or not. Do you use a spam filter? No Do you tolerate the spam because it tests the filtering process? So no Is the language of the spam relevant? No -- good question! Wildcard Does the spam give you ideas of some kind? YES -- good question! Show you examples? Precisely! Let you know what your competition is doing? No Bentarm Might you be happy to receive an email from a friend for the same reason? Yes, but to a much lesser degree than spam mail. Sixtyeight is there a relevant preference for quantity of spam? See my answer to your next question. is 20 spam emails better than 1 spam email? For my purposes, the more spam mail I get, the better, simply because I can get more ideas and examples that Wildcard alluded to earlier. if you received 20 spam emails, would you prefer 4 per day over 5 days.. over ..2 days with 10 spams each followed by 3 spamless days? Irrelevant is the above preference relevant? No Tanvishashikant Do you not mind receiving spam mail because that way your account doesn't expire? No Or you feel like at least someone is sending you mail - even if its just spam? No, nothing like this -- my ego may be enormous, but even it does not need that level of encouragement! :D |

are there any email addresses contained inside the spam mails? Any relevant symbols? the headers? If some complete stranger from Nigeria actually sent you an email asking you to process some money for him (and it wasn't a scam) would you still appreciate this email? |

Do the names of the senders give you any ideas? If the spam was sent to you by someone named "xyz" would it be less useful to you than if it were sent by someone named "Haenlomal", for example? Are the email addresses of the senders relevant? Their subject lines? Are you trying to gather statistics? |

Tanvishashikant Do the names of the senders give you any ideas? YES -- well done! But also see my answer to your next question. If the spam was sent to you by someone named "xyz" would it be less useful to you than if it were sent by someone named "Haenlomal", for example? Actually, both of these are equally worthless to me. Nonetheless, you are definitely on the right track. Are the email addresses of the senders relevant? No Their subject lines? No Are you trying to gather statistics? No |

Enjay Are you looking for ideas of a false name to use? YES Characters in a story? YES Are you a writer? Well, not professionally, but I'm trying to write something... :-) Do the names have to have a first name and last name? Preferably And that's another wrap.... **************** SPOILER ***************** As some of the older regulars may now, I've been trying to work on a science fiction novel for quite some time now. In my story, there are characters from all over the world. However, I had trouble coming up with names for characters, especially if they are supposed to be from foreign locations (somehow, naming a Frenchman "John Smith" does not sound as convicing "Pierre Lafleur"...) Enter spam mail! Many spam mail nowadays are using real names of the unfortunate users they have spoofed. So when I feel up to it, instead of deleting them right away, I look through my spam, hoping to catch a foreign name or two to help with my writing. Thanks to all for playing, and a special mention to Tanvishashikant for making the crucial lateral leap, and to Enjay for finishing this puzzle off with another good lateral leap. May you find your spam...um...less annoying. :-D |

Haha... This was a good one :-). And since I'm not used to lateral leaps at all (I usually end up confusing myself further with my questions, or being so completely off-track, that sometimes I have to read the puzzle all over again!)I'm thrilled with this one! YAY YAY YAY! |
