Tempted just to list 19th century authors at random. Actually, why not, it's probably as good a strategy as any... Wilde? Nathaniel Hawthorne? Blake? Scott? Trollope? Shelley? Wordsworth? Keats? Hardy? Mill? Poe? Dickens? Coleridge? Lewis Carroll?
Is his writing relevant? Did he write his objection down? Is his objection in any way linked to his death?
Did he die whilst in the process of writing something?

Peter365:

Is this another Famous Last Words puzzle?yes Henrik Ibsen's last words were translated to "On the Contrary" when a nurse commented that he appeared a little better?Indeed they were Am i getting warm?stand back from the fire a little... your jumper's about to go up in flames!

***************** SPOILER *******************

As Peter stated above! On May 16, 1906, Ibsen was in a coma in his bedroom, surrounded by friends and relatives. A nurse told the others in the room that the famed playwright seemed to be a little better. Without opening his eyes, Ibsen uttered one word: `Tvertimod' (`On the contrary'). He died that afternoon without speaking again.

I thought it might go quickly but well done to Peter for getting it so quickly...

BTW the title is a line from Educating Rita... where Frank is talking to Rita about her essay answer... question was how to resolve the staging difficulties in a production of Peer Gynt... and my title was her essay!

Nice one Tom. As you may have guessed this is a sort of pet subject of mine. For some reason (and i'm not a morbid person) last words facinate me. Some are beautifully touching and others are just downright strange. Ibsen's has alway been a favourite of mine so it was an easy leap for me to spoyle this one.

Didn't twig the Educating Rita quote. A very sensible solution
