Or was it a combination of words? like "ace is"? Was the word "races" the only mishearing? Did you hear anything in the lines of the following: I like races? I go to the races? I watch the races? I follow the races? see below for the answer to these Woubit (Woubit) Moderator Username: Woubit Post Number: 289 Registered: 5-2007 Posted on Sunday, August 17, 2008 - 9:46 pm: Edit PostDelete PostView Post/Check IPPrint Post Move Post (Moderator/Admin Only)Ban Poster IP (Moderator/Admin only) A guess: did you mishear "Think I'll slip on down to the oasis"? I did indeed, and that's a *****SPOILER***** One of the lines in Garth Brooks' 1990 hit single Friends in Low Places is "Think I'll slip on down to the oasis." For the last 17+ years, I had always heard this line as "Think I'll slip on down to the ol' races." Based on this mondegreen, I always thought that Brooks was a fan of racing, and to my Americanized teenage mind, car racing was what I thought of. However, I recently found out that Brooks has signed an endorsement deal with NASCAR, thus showing that he does support racing, although my reasoning was flawed. Thanks to everyone for plugging away at this one, especially Tobasi, and Woubit for finishing it off. My other puzzle, "The Decider", is still open and waiting for more brilliant minds! |
