Was the court... The U.S. Supreme Court? A State supreme court? A regular old district/small time court? Was it the first time any court had ever ruled that way? Was the case being presented a pointless case? Was there something so "out there" about that the court threw it out or ruled immediately? Was somebody trying to sue the fetus? | ||

Is this Roe vs. Wade? If so, the fact that the child was already born when the decision was made? Was the trial at all publicized? | ||

Is it a human fetus? Is/was it healthy? Unhealthy? Mutated (like, say, a Siamese twin?) Aborted? If so, spontaneously, accidentally, or deliberately? Did it qualify as a human being in some senses but not others? Did it not qualify as human for the purposes of (whatever-we're-figuring-out) but did qualify in the sense of some other law? Did the case involve abortion or contraception? Was it a criminal or civil case? Was money involved? Property? Business? Citizenship? Inheritance? Travel? Are the location, time period, or any particular professions relevant? Was the fetus conceived normally or "in-vitro," and is this relevant? Had it been conceived at the time of the case? Was a defendant, plaintiff, lawyer, witness or anyone else directly involved with the case pregnant? Had been pregnant? Did the fetus grow up to be any of these people? Did the ruling apply to a specific fetus, several fetusii, or to fetuses in general? If the latter, in that city? County? State? The country? Was the case appealed, and if so, what was the ultimate verdict? | ||

I'm thinking that abortion is a big red herring in this puzzle: would that be fair? Is this about a pregnant woman? Was either side in the courtcase trying to claim that her unborn child was a separate person for some reason? Did a restaurant impose two cover charges because she was "eating for two" and she challenged this? Did an airline charge her for two seats because she was pregnant, and she challenged this? Did she enter the Wimbledon Mixed Doubles on her own? :-) | ||

Hmmm... this is interesting... does that mean if the fetus is removed it is still considered non-human and therefore good for scientific experimentation? Or would the removal of it somehow make it human?... | ||

Was it the case of the woman who tried to claim her fetus as a separate person in order to beat a carpool lane ticket? (This really happened, BTW.) Ding! That's correct. SPOILER. I guessed this one might be easy, but I didn't think it would be this easy. |
