A trucker hauling compressed gas cylinders finds himself in a new town. As he enters a very congested section of road, he notices the bridge ahead looks rather low. The sign reads 14'2". He knows that his truck is just over that height, so he has to stop just short of the bridge. Because of all of the traffic, he can't back up. What should he do? |

Well I reckon he could let some air out of the truck tyres to see if it lowered the vehicle sufficiently? |

Would it work if the truck was carrying something other than compressed gas cylinders? Would it work if the truck was not carrying any cargo at all? Is the bridge actually 14'2" high? Does it involve raising the bridge? Is there anything unusual about the truck? |

Can he increase the space under the bridge? Yesish, he can do something that gives him the space that he needs, but the actual space under the bridge stays the same. eg by removing something from the bridge? No ***HINT*** If you were there, it would be obvious what should be done. |

Is it a bascule bridge? Anything unusual at ground level, eg a floor that can be lowered? |

Can he drive around it? No, he drives under the bridge Or take a different bridge? No Or a ferry? No *** H I N T *** An assumption is being made about the bridge. It's a less-common design, but one everyone has seen before. |

Is the bridge rigid? Is it relevant what form of transport (if any) uses the bridge (including walking/bicycles etc.)? Is the bridge permanent? |

Does it involve somehow raising the height of the bridge from the roadway? How about he fact that in the USA the engineers actually leave a little leeway between the actual height of the bridge vs. the marked height? Is the bridge adjustable in some fashion? |

Yes Does it involve somehow raising the height of the bridge from the roadway? No How about the fact that in the USA the engineers actually leave a little leeway between the actual height of the bridge vs. the marked height? Good thinking, but no, the truck will not fit under the bridge where it's currently at. Is the bridge adjustable in some fashion? No, quite rigid. |

Is the bridge flat (as opposed to arched)? If it's arched, maybe he can change lanes, or even drive for a short distance right along the road median in order to get through. |

Does the driver do something to the bridge? To his truck? Both? Neither? Is it relevant to find out what type of bridge it is? Is the bridge man-made? Or natural? |

[Biograd] Is the bridge flat (as opposed to arched)? No If it's arched, maybe he can change lanes, or even drive for a short distance right along the road median in order to get through. YES! This is the alternate solution I had thought of after posting. The truck is on the side of an arched bridge and just has to move more into the middle for more clearance. GOOD JOB Biograd! ! ! |
