Josh is in a car talking with his father when his father pulls up to a curb. A man the father has never spoken to or heard of before walks up to the father gives the father 40 dollars, then tells Josh to come with him. Josh happily gets out of the car and waves goodbye to his father before following the man; Josh and father never see each other again. Neither Josh nor his father are upseat about this or consider it at all unusual, why not? |

Stop there. You just said the father gave the man money. Puzzle statement says the other way around. Which is right? |

Did the father take the son to a Broadway show that only he would be able to go to with the son and the stepfather agreed to pay the father for the cost of the ticket only after the show if and only if Josh was still alive? |

OK... so Josh is in a taxi and the taxi driver is actually his biological father but neither of them are aware of this? perhaps the taxi driver was a sperm donor? or perhaps he didn't know he had fathered a child? or knew he had, but did not know this was his child? and the taxi delivers the child to the child's house where he lives with his mother and stepfather? and the stepfather pays the fare and takes Josh in? |

So...Josh was a prom-night accident which his father didn't really want; his father is useless, and probably a terrible influence to josh, but wanted to see him once in his life. After getting the chance to do so, his stepfather pays him to get lost forever, and everyone is satisfied with that? Is the above poorly-educated guess close to correct? |

Sorry to jump in with my size nines and finish it off after others had done the hard work... We used to call that 'swooping' - not sure if folk still use that term on here It's actually quite a nice lateral puzzle in the classic style, thanks |

I like vagary idea too, mabye i'll save it and create a puzzle around it to post in three months or so when everyone has forgotten it ;) and I have always prefered the classical style so I usualy try to stick close to it. Unfortunatly that seems to make it harder to come up with good puzzles. |

Well it takes me about three years to come up with anything halfway decent so I bow to anyone who can keep inventing them (I'm very envious of Nimue for instance who creates some really good ones) |

yeah i always use to enjoy nimue's before I disappeared for a year or two. I use to come up with them kind of fast but I sort of used up all my good ideas a while ago. now I stumble on a good concept once in a great while |
