Joe wasn't recognised and happened also to be pleased?
Because Joe wasn't recognised he rewarded Frank?
Because Joe was pleased he rewarded Frank?
Frank insulted Joe by accident? as the result of something he said? because he was rewarded?
Was what Frank said meant to be positive? neutral?
Is there double meaning to what Frank had said? Joe misunderstood what Frank had said?
Joe understood what Frank had said? but was insulted because Frank had chosen to say it?
Did Frank offend Joe? by thanking him?

Was Joe in disguise at the time? Was he someone important incognito? Whom Frank insulted in passing during their conversation?

(I'm thinking here of the scene in Henry V where Hal goes out among his troops in disguise, and listens to them talk among themselves about how they think the king is a bit of a jerk.)

Hmmm...let me try to recap this, and you tell me if I understood what's been discovered so far:

Joe, for reasons yet to be discovered, decides to go incognito. He runs into Frank, and the latter does not recognize the former. Joe is pleased with this fact.

For reasons still to be determined, Joe decides to reward Frank. Frank accepts the gift, and while accepting it, makes a remark that insults Joe.

Did I get that right?

For reasons still to be determined, Joe decides to reward Frank.Yes Frank accepts the gift, and while accepting it, makes a remark that insults Joe. Yes

Hmmm...so Joe is NOT going incognito? Or have we already uncovered the reasons why he is going incognito?

If Frank had recognized Joe, would Joe still have given Frank his reward?

If Frank for some miraculous reason recognize Joe right AFTER he had received his gift, would Frank still have made the remark that insulted Joe?

I'm a little confused because on 10/10 you said yes to their professions being relevant, but then on 10/18 you said that Frank is not a professional, thus being without a profession. Should we take this to mean that he has some vocation which society as a whole may not recognize as a profession? Without trying to offend anyone, perhaps a lawyer or doctor or architect would be considered a professional whilst a janitor, garbage man, or mall security guard may not? I'm really not sure which direction to take this...

Would he be seen as working at the bottom of a totem pole (i.e. one of the above, or other similar) for a large corporation? would he be seen as working for a small business where a degree is not necessary but not at the bottom of the totem pole (like a tow truck driver)? would he be seen as an entrepreneur who did not require a degree?

Would he be seen as working at the bottom of a totem pole (i.e. one of the above, or other similar) for a large corporationno? would he be seen as working for a small business where a degree is not necessary but not at the bottom of the totem pole (like a tow truck driver)?Closer would he be seen as an entrepreneur who did not require a degree? I don't think so

Oh, and btw, I've got a puzzle up that I'd love to see you in crazypalpig! =)I'll check it out:-)

Frank is a taxi cab driver who happens to pick up Joe who is a politician. Joe rewards Frank by tipping him. Somewhere along the way something was brought up that caused Frank to express an opinion about a piece of legislation that Joe was involved in, or just a policy that Joe holds. Frank expresses disapproval and maybe even puts Joe down, not knowing it is the very many to whom he is speaking.

Something like that?

Is the time of day relevant? Political parties? Does Frank actually insult Joe directly by saying something bad about him (just not knowing it's him)?

Something that happens before Frank picks up Joe:
Joe calls the taxi company for a pick up?
Joe hails Frank from the street?
Is this something that only happens to one of the two of them a the time? Joe? Frank?
Is the thing that happens positive? negative? neutral?
Did this event cause Joe to get the taxi?

so we have a politician going to be on the radio... hails a cab... cabbie doesn't recognize him... he is happy about this... tips the cabbie... cabbie says something about him which wasn't meant to be offensive but is.

Maybe something about how he heard another (or that very) politician on a radio show and then expressed disapproval about it?

ooops, i forgot that the pickup location was irr.

was he reluctant to pick him up because of an essential property that he possessed? because of an accidental property that he possessed? Is it a property universal? A property particular?(These are Aristotelian definitions, for more information on this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accident_(philosophy)

A quick overview: It is essential and particular that he is him. It is essential and universal that he is a human. It is accidental universal that he has brown hair (we'll say). It is accidental particular that he has that particular shade of brown hair.

If you don't know where the reason fits in that grid just say so and I'll try a different line of questioning.

So up to now, Joe hails a cabbie and for an unknown reason Frank doesn't want to give Joe a ride. Joe rewards him and was then promptly insulted. Joe is a politician, and in the beginning Frank did not recognize Joe. Frank would not have wanted to pick up anybody.

sorry i have been absent so long, I was taking a break for finals and the like!

So, lets get this going again...

So, Frank doesn't want to pick Joe up. This has nothing to do with where Joe is, or really anything dealing with Joe at all. The reason Frank doesn't want to pick up Joe deals exclusively with something going on in Frank's personal life and dealing with public politics, but not to go vote. The personal reason that Frank had pleased Joe, but then offended him.

Was Frank going to serve on a jury? Pick up voters to take them to their polling place? Go to a public rally? Join a march? Register for something?

Now that I think about it, personal might not be the best word. Just think of it as a not-part-of-job reason.

Would you like a refreshed recap? Oh well, you have no choice in that matter;)

Joe wasn't recognized, and he was pleased, so he rewarded Frank. Joe was then insulted by accident

Joe is a politician, and is about to go on the TV/radio. Frank, a cabbie, wouldn't pick Joe up for the same reason Joe was pleased. After Joe gave Frank extra money before the cab started, Frank said something that accidentally insulted him.

Did Frank wish Joe a merry Christmas, but knew Joe was Jewish?

Did Frank pretend not to recognize Joe but then tell him to "break a leg" or something equivalent - indicating that he had lied to Joe previously?

Anything like these?

Is there to be a debate on the radio between competing political candidates?
Is Frank running against Joe in an upcoming election? Therefore, Frank is in a hurry to get to the radio station as well?

Or a twist on the above story: Is Frank the leader of an "action group" and has to get to the radio station in order to protest Joe's support of the opposing views?

1. Frank didn't want a new passenger due to being in a hurry for "Something" - and - Joe was feeling pleased because of that same "Something", right?
2. But, Joe was also pleased about not being recognized, right?
Fine point to clarify: Was Joe pleased about 2 things? The first was Frank's reason to hurry and the other because he was anonymous?

Was Joe feeling pleased BEFORE meeting Frank? Or after finding out that Frank was in a hurry due to that mysterious "Something"?

So, we find out that Frank is in a hurry to go home and listen to the radio show that Joe is to be a guest of. This pleases Joe. Joe tips Frank. Frank says, "blah-de-blah-da" and now Joe is insulted. Frank did not intend to insult Joe.

Is this correct?

Why did the radio in the car not work?

Did Joe ask Frank to wait outside for him?

********** SPOILER *************
Joe, a politician, needs to get to the radio station to make a speech or statement. He hails down Frank, a taxi driver. Frank tells Joe that he doesn't want to pick him up because he wants to go home to listen to Joe's speech, not realizing that Joe was in front of him. Joe is very pleased about Frank's reason, and gives him a 5$ advance. Frank grinned and said, "Hop in. To hell with the governor". Oops.
