I thought one of my other puzzles was super-easy but it still hasn't been solved. So i'm throwing another out here - maybe this one will actually get solved Puzzle: The boy desperately pleaded for the garbage left over after the woman's party, but swore he would throw it all out the next day |

Did he need a certain type of garbage? If so, disposable plates? Silverware? Cups? Leftover food? Some type of decoration? Or does he need garbage of a certain type of material? Is he throwing a party of his own? |

Was the garbage he wanted to be used in some sort of performance? Is it relevant what kind of party the garbage was from? Could the kind of garbage he needed come just as easily from a wedding as from a dinner party, for example? Is it relevant how much of this garbage he wanted? On the off chance, is some form of dorm bowling relevant? |

Yes but he wouldn't have wanted smelly, rotten or sticky garbage, so no discarded food bits Is it relevant how much of this garbage he wanted? Not really, depending on what he was given he could have made do with 5 pieces of garbage, or needed 50 to do what he wanted to do On the off chance, is some form of dorm bowling relevant? I am so glad to be able to post questions again. Was he going to subject the garbage to cyanoacrylate fuming? Fingerprinting? DNA analysis? Would whatever he was planning on doing have relevant effects that would last after the entirety of the garbage was in a landfill far, far away? Don't throw your trash in my backyard, my backyard, my backyard, don't throw your trash in my backyard, my backyard's full? Would he have most wanted garbage that was comprised mostly of... Petroleum-based plastics? Organic fiber based woods, papers, and cardboards? Metals? Metalloids? Household Hazardous Wastes? Biohazardous materials? Styrofoam? Dead plants, insects, and small mammals? Glass? Concrete/cement? Did what he wanted to do serve a utilitarian purpose? |

Was he going to subject the garbage to cyanoacrylate fuming? Fingerprinting? DNA analysis? no to all Would whatever he was planning on doing have relevant effects that would last after the entirety of the garbage was in a landfill far, far away? its possible but entirely irrelevant. Don't throw your trash in my backyard, my backyard, my backyard, don't throw your trash in my backyard, my backyard's full? if his backyard was full of trash he would have needed to ask for the lady's trash Petroleum-based plastics? acceptable, there is one plastic item he would have LOVED to have, but he could have made do without it Organic fiber based woods, papers, and cardboards? acceptable, paper and cardboard more so than wood Metals? No Metalloids? not really, there are things made out of silicone that he could have wanted but no need to get so specific Household Hazardous Wastes? No way Biohazardous materials? No way Styrofoam? acceptable Dead plants, insects, and small mammals? Glass? No way Concrete/cement? No way Did what he wanted to do serve a utilitarian purpose?in the sense that the boys action would have increase the value of the garbage for that one night |

Was he going to undertake some sort of experiment involving "scrap" plastics, cardboard, paper, and/or Styrofoam? Was he intending to gain information from whatever he would do? Was he intending to construct something using materials found in the garbage? Would whatever he did have mainly an immediate effect (such as using a plastic spoon to dig a tunnel out of a prison) Or a future effect? (Such as taking a picture of it to later post on the Internet, or taking notes about the size, shape, and composition of various "pieces" of trash, so that he might reconstruct a replica of certain pieces of the trash at a later date)? |

Was he going to use the objects as they were? for the most part, yes Subject them to a physical change? (like cutting something, or folding a plate into a banana) like cutting something Subject them to chemical change? (like rusting something, or burning something, or fusing two hydrogen atoms) nothing so complex. This is an average 10 year old boy, who is going to take this garbage, due something with it, that will increase its value, for just one night, gain something from his use of the garbage, and then discard the garbage afterward |

Was he going to fill a swimming pool with garbage and swim in it? no Recap: There is a boy of about 10 years old begging for garbage that he wants to use that night. He promises to throw it away after the night is over. He doesn't want any smelly, stinky, heavy, or dangerous garbage. Perferrably lightweight garbage, and he will need to cut (or tear) some of it. He will be making something out of it that will enable him to gain something as a result of having that garbage. There is enough in this recap that you can know exactly why he is asking for the garbage |

(US$599) its possible that he would gain money, but it would likely be a surprise to him and under $1 if he did A physical object? Why do I get the feeling that the solution is painfully obvious, but my mind is completely blank? Why do I know that someone like Trevor will unexpectedly return and solve this puzzle with a single post? Does this kid want, in particular, some kind of trash that would be more prevalent in trash from parties rather than normal trash one might find in a dumpster behind a government office? Is it relevant what kind of party it was? (Tupperware party, Super Bowl party, birthday party, New Year's party, political party [organization], LAN party, political party [fundraiser event], block party, toga party, Halloween party, Mardi Gras, dinner party, housewarming party, tea party, singles party, "we need an excuse to consume alcoholic beverages and kill some brain cells" party, cast party, costume party, pool party, after-party, etc., etc., etc.) |

Why do I get the feeling that the solution is painfully obvious, but my mind is completely blank? Why do I know that someone like Trevor will unexpectedly return and solve this puzzle with a single post? Funny but the solution to every puzzle I've ever posted has been obvious to me from the moment I've posted it Does this kid want, in particular, some kind of trash that would be more prevalent in trash from parties rather than normal trash one might find in a dumpster behind a government office? any trash would work However the child would have likely preferred trash from one of these: Super Bowl party, birthday party, New Year's party, party, Mardi Gras, or costume party. Much more so than trash left over from a day t the office or a cleaned out school desk yes, you've gotten far enough that solution is blindingly, painfully obvious. Thats likely your problem. The solution is so bright that you can't see it. Hint: If he were given an empty garbage bag too, his plan would have worked out a whole lot better than if he weren't. |

Hmm... I assumed he was bringing his own trash bag. Does he have his own trash bag with him? Does he want the trash bag rather than the trash itself? Or would the empty trash bag help him because it would be easier to separate out what he wanted and what he didn't? Was he trying to make a costume of some sort? Maybe for Halloween? |

Does he have his own trash bag with him? no Does he want the trash bag rather than the trash itself? not necessarily. if he didn't get the trash bag, he'd want more trash than if he got it Or would the empty trash bag help him because it would be easier to separate out what he wanted and what he didn't? nope *******SPOILER******** Was he trying to make a costume of some sort? yep Maybe for Halloween? Yes, he had no Halloween costume and it was almost time for trick-or-treating hours. So he could have either poked his body through a trash bag, and stuck some empty trash around him,and went as a bag of garbage, or sans trash bag, stuck empty trash to his shirt and pants, and went trick or treating as a pile of garbage/litter. You can tie a paper plate on your head with a piece of string, and glue empty wrappers to it. Its a quick, cheap way to score some candy. You'd want at least enough garbage that the candy givers would think you put some effort into it - not like the teens who show up without a costume at all and expect candy. Its the costume the busy, cheap skate parent comes up with. **I'm going to go look up the words easy and difficult in the dictionary because I seem to have gotten their meanings reversed going by how quickly progress is made on my difficult puzzles and how slowly it is made on my easy puzzles |
