This is the last year that it really works. I'm sure that they'll try it next year, but after that they'll have to think of something else. |

Anything to do with Barack Obama being sworn in as president this year? Relevant that he's the first black president of the U.S.? |

My answer was not correct. I asked: Is it referring to, say, the students who graduated in 2008 as "the class of oh-eight?" It works for the "class of oh-nine," but "class of oh-ten" sounds bad enough (and makes little enough sense) that people will switch to something more sensible, like "the class of eleven" for 2011. No, but definitely think along those same lines. And you're right, I sincerely hope we never hear about the class of oh-ten. So... Is a colloquial reference to the year relevant? Are "they" people in general? Some specific people? Any formal standards-setting body relevant? Is 2009 the last year that it really works? 2008? |

If so, spoken? written? electronic? graphical? Closest to this. Biograd (Biograd) Another attempted answer emailed You got it exactly! Nice job. |

Anything to do with the fact that this is the last year (for a LONG time, at any rate), that the middle two digits of a year are both 0? Anything to do with the fact that it's going to be a lot harder to make a Google doodle for New Year's Day next year now that they can no longer use those two middle zeros as the "oo" in G00gle? |

No. But you're close. |

Some other sort of graphic that uses 0's to represent the letter O. Other numbers that resemble letters (e.g. 1/l, 3/e, etc.) relevant? |

Bolapara (Bolapara) Or the glasses that say 2009 and you look through the 00 part? Yes! ***************SPOILER On New Years' Eve, and especially in Times Square, you see everyone wearing glasses with the rims made out of the two zeroes in the upcoming year. It's worked for ten years now, but no longer. Sure, it might work for 2010 if they put the one between the eyes, but there's no way to make glasses out of 2011. |
