<(°o°<) <(-_-<) (>°c°)> ^(O_O)^ <(°o°<) (Note that I pretty much just pulled these emoticons right out of my nether regions, and so they might not exactly match the standard conventions for Eastern-style emoticons ("kirbies"). They still do, however, at least look like what they're supposed to.) |

Merde. *Curses Micro$oft* It seems that when this page is viewed in IE, the character encoding is all screwy, leading to capital A's with hats being displayed before the degree symbols. *Curses IE* To fix this, go to View --> Encoding --> UTF-8. This should make the characters show up as intended. If you are using Firefox, Chrome, or Opera, (and maybe Safari), you shouldn't have this problem. If you are, you can probably solve it with a similar process. *Curses poor interoperability in general* No wonder no one was posting! I'll try it again, and hopefully it will work this time: <(°o°<) <(-_-<) (>°c°)> ^(O_O)^ <(°o°<) |

What exactly are we supposed to figure out? First smiley = last smiley? Is this a similar concept to your 'Boom / Thud' puzzle? Do the smilies represent people? |

What exactly are we supposed to figure out? What the situation is and what the people in it are doing. First smiley = last smiley? Yes Is this a similar concept to your 'Boom / Thud' puzzle? Yes, in that it is a rather more odd and abstract method of describing the scene than usual. I hope this is OK? Do the smilies represent people? Yes |

So I'm guessing it's just a back and forth between two people? So 1 = 3 = 5, and 2 = 4? Are the first and last smilies a 'hello' and a 'goodbye'? Is the third smiley Person A telling Person B something that is surprising? Does Person A know Person B? On a personal level? Did Person A do anything illegal? Person B? A third party? |

Can ^(O_O)^ be replaced with <(o_o)> given that they both represent a surprised face? The symbols that make up each face are not important in and of themselves. What is important is what the face as a whole represents. So the answer to your question is "yes." |

Is the difference between the o and the c relevant? Do they represent different states? Emotions? Could the emoticons be written in any fashion so long as they all conveyed faces? Very interesting puzzle, by the way. |

Could the emoticons be written in any fashion so long as they all conveyed faces? Yes Is the difference between the o and the c relevant? Do they represent different states? Emotions? I probably should have made this more clear in my puzzle statement, but each face represents a character in the scene performing a separate action (and possibly expressing an emotion). I chose the symbols that comprise each face because it looked (at least somewhat) like what the character is doing, but each symbol is not in-and-of-itself, or by itself, significant. The first and last faces are the same person doing the same thing. The middle face is that person doing something different. Faces two and four are a second character performing two other different actions. Very interesting puzzle, by the way. Thanks! |

At the beginning person A (Adam) and person B (Bella) are facing the same direction, so they can't just be talking face to face to start with, correct? So maybe Adam comes up behind Bella and starts talking to her while she's facing away from him? If so, she looks pretty annoyed? Maybe she doesn't like Adam and doesn't want him talking to her? Or maybe something he says makes her annoyed? Or is she sighing? Or she could be asleep, and sleepwalking? Then Adam is facing the other way, so maybe he comes round to face Bella from the front? Or maybe he turns around and walks away from her? Then Bella looks surprised. Because of something Adam has said? Or done? Or has she just woken up from her sleepwalk and found herself somewhere weird? Is she surprised because Adam has told her that he's pregnant with her child? And then Adam turns to face her again? Or, if he was already face to face with her, he turns and walks away? Alternative: Adam is facing away from Bella. Bella comes up to Adam from behind, Adam turns to face Bella. Bella becomes surprised, Adam turns and walks away again. |

Are they sitting next to each other in class? Yope So they are sitting next to each other? No So then are they in class? is it your generic school class room? some other form of class? Would the fact that they are attending a class also explain the 'Yope' your gave for 'are they attending some form of event?'? because they are attending a class but that really isn't an 'event' as most people see it? They are not sitting next to each other but are in close proximity, correct? so then are they at separate desks or tables? that have some space between them, but are still next to each other in a row or column? or are their others between them? is any of this relevant? or is it really only important that they are close enough for Adam to wake up Bella? Is there some important learning to be had from some sort of instructor and that is why Adam is waking up Bella? are they taking a test of some sort? Is there any more super important information i need to find out or are you basically just waiting for some one to put together everything we already know? |

Adam the teacher is giving a +3 Lecture of Boring while facing the white/chalk/smart board. He turns to the class so make sure that the class has sufficiently built up their will and fortitude saves in order to resist the onslaught of his lecture. He then sees that Bella has managed a critical failure resulting in instant tiredness and yells are her to wake here up, before returning to face the board and continue the lecture. |

Correct! ---+++***SpOiLeRz***+++--- Professor Adam Nafziger is giving his lecture on Set Theory, when he turns to see Bella sleeping in the back row. He yells at her to wake up and pay attention! Startled, Bella wakes up and resumes pretending to be interested. Dr Nafziger goes back to teaching. |
