The day when Larry did not see the sun was the luckiest one in his life. How come? | ||

Larry="his"? Is Larry H?A?M? Did he not see the sun because... it was cloudy? there was an eclipse? he was indoors? he was blind or otherwise vision impaired? his eyes were closed? he was asleep? he was in outer space? We're talking about the sun at the center of our solar system, as visible from Earth? And a full day went by without him seeing it? Did he not see the sun, so something good happened that qualified him as lucky? Would something bad have happened if he'd seen the sun, therefore he's lucky he didn't see it? Did some third factor result in him not seeing the sun and also being lucky? | ||

So if I get it right, Larry not seeing the sun actually caused him to be lucky? Or was it a coincidence: him not seeing the sun and that day being the luckiest day in his life. Did he actively try to not see the sun? So he was in outer space and he would be blinded if he had seen the sun, and that made it the luckiest day in his life? | ||

Was it the actual act of not seeing the sun that was lucky? Or were there other contributing factors? Has he any relevant medical condition? By lucky - was it life changing for him? Life saving? | ||

One thought popped into my head: The US planned to drop the second nuclear bomb on Kokura, Japan, but it was cloudy there and they couldn't see the city, so they dropped it on Hiroshima. That being said, was Larry in Kokura on that fateful (for Hiroshimians) day? | ||

And right you are :-)) **************SPOILER************** Larry, indeed, lived in the Japanese city of Kokura, which had been the primary target of the plutonium bomb “Fat Man”, carried by the American bomber B-29 named Bock’s Car. However, on the morning of the raid, August 9, 1945, the city was obscured by clouds and smoke. The bomber passed three times over Kokura but the mission commander Major Charles Sweeney had orders to only drop the bomb only on visual identification of the large arms factory which was the target of the raid. As the visibility did not improve, he was ordered to proceed to the secondary target of Nagasaki - which was also partly obscured with clouds but not enough - where he dropped the weapon. Kokura had also been the secondary target of the “Little Boy” bomb, which had been dropped three days earlier by the Enola Gay on Hiroshima. Due to that, the Japanese allegedly have a saying about the “luck of Kokura”. Thank you all for participating.
