He = H?A?M?

Is he playing a sport? Playing a card game? Any other game? Playing music? Doing something else that involves the verb 'play'?

One= a game? a round? Had he already played more than one? More than ten?

Was he playing a team sport? A sport with an opponent? A sport with an opposing team? Is anyone else relevant?

Should we be answering the question of why he didn't play one more? Or is it unknown? WOuld it seem logical that he play one more?

One= a game? this a round? Had he already played more than one? yes More than ten? yes

Was he playing a team sport? yes A sport with an opponent? A sport with an opposing team? yes Is anyone else relevant? no one in particular but others are involved in the story

Should we be answering the question of why he didn't play one more? It's more a case of why i felt he should have played one more rather than why he actually didn't Or is it unknown? no WOuld it seem logical that he play one more? in my opinion yes

era relevant? somewhat age? ditto was there cheating involved? no

This American thinks that "he" = Donald Bradman, of 99.94 average fame, and that he should indeed have played one more to try to bring it back over 100.

*************SPOILER**************

Yes you're spot on. Don Bradman the legendary Australian Batsman has a Test Match average of 99.94 runs. Playing his last Test against England in 1948 he needed to score just 4 runs to end with a career average of 100. Much to Bradman's and everyone watching's dismay he was bowled second ball for no score thus leaving his career average a tantalising 0.06 short of the magic 100 mark. Bradmans achievements can be put in context by looking at the top averages amongst modern batsmen with no player currently averaging more than 60.

While I'm aware that he was suffering from a lot of injuries at that time I can't help feeling that he should have played one more test match to try and improve his average. By my reckoning he would have had to score 110 in his next innings to reach the magic figure.

Thought I'd post this quickie to mark the current Ashes test series which England are leading 1-0 in the best of five matches.

Nice job D Gordon
