are We: electric engines (I suppose that's motors...)? No, they usually either hum or scream. I like the ones that hum - but that's irrelevant to the puzzle =) internal combustion at all? Yes. other alternative energy source? No. |

do We have a bewildering number of cylinders? like a purring twelve-cylinder engine? I suppose I should ask specifically: are We motorcycles? scooters? autos? trucks? planes? where I live, many float planes fly overhead to the other islands in my archipelago, or on to Alaska -- DeHavilland Beavers, mostly, with throbbing radial engines -- and while some might say they roar, I have such a soft spot for them they sound mellifluous to me! |

Are We turbine engines? turbo-props? turbo-jets? These! Floyd R. Turbo? No. ***SPOILER*** Our jump plane at the skydiving club is a turboprop, while the airplane club next door flies piston planes. I much enjoy the high pitched singing of turbines over the unmuffled roar of the piston engines. I also find turbines to be much more elegant contraptions. |

thanks; nice puzzle. I'm not aviation-oriented, other than my fondness for those float planes. They're loud, I suppose you could say they roar, but like the purring of a large, soft cat. At least, they sound that way to me. And I appreciate the nature of the radial engine, as well. But clearly, they don't sing as well as the ones you describe -- more of a basso profundo, if anything, compared to your plane's tenor, perhaps? |

I love aviation -- mostly military, though. I had an idea about this one from the start. Good to see I was right. Great puzzle! |
