Does the scrund have to do with how likely people are to become addicted? Did you think that everyone who uses addictive drugs becomes addicted to them? Did you think that all drugs were addictive? |

Is the method used to ingest the drugs relevant? Amount ingested? Type of drug? Physical addiction versus psychological dependence on something? Did you have this scrund about drug addiction in general, or addiction to a specific substance? Did the scrund relate to how long it takes to become addicted to something? The point at which someone can be described as an addict? How easy/difficult it is to become addicted? |

Anything to do with the percentage of people addicted to drugs? Even if this has nothing to do with the scrund, it is amazing how constant the percentage of people within a population who are addicted to drugs has been throughout history, despite very different drug policies and discovery of new addictive substances during that time. |

Are gateway drugs relevant? Socioeconomic qualities of those likely to be drug addicts? Is the scrund more about the addiction itself? or the people who are addicted? And DARE stands for "Drug Abuse Resistance Education"... Generally involves police officers coming into elementary (and I suppose middle and high) schools to teach the kids about how to avoid drugs, gangs, etc. It's been around for a while, but the jury's out on whether it's effective or not. |

Is it a job many young people do? Do they come in contact with addicts that are: Taking drugs? High on drugs? Recovering from a drug trip? Trying to quit? Homeless? Stealing/begging? Sick? Experiencing other problems related to addiction? Do they help the addicts? Do they handle drugs themselves? Does their work primarely show them the downsides of being a drug addict? |

Anything to do with Marijuana being a "gateway drug"? AA/NA involved? Ex-addicts involved? Needle exchange clinics? Is this group of people doing the same job likely to be in inner cities? Rural areas? Older people? People who take drugs? Used to take drugs? Do they share the same "profession"? Or are they just doing the same "job" for the moment? |

Is this job an "actual" job, i.e. one a person could apply for and formally receive a salary as compensation for, or more of a lifestyle (as with the homeless people example)? |

Long shot...is it about prostitution? Pimping? Sale of illegal goods other than drugs? Selling illegal services? Making illegal goods? Gambling illegally (as opposed to going to the casino)? Running illegal gambling? While I don't think it's illegal...dancing or stripping? Is the illegal job something that some people would argue should be legal? Something that people disapprove of? People think they are unsung heroes? |

The writer of the book I read about this said that you'd expect these people to avoid drugs after seeing all the misery addiction causes. But instead, a lot of them actually try drugs, because they figure that anything that makes people to endure such suffering must be pretty wonderful. I can't promise that my next puzzle is pretty wonderful, but I can promise that it's waiting for you at the bottom of this page. I certainly didn't have this scrund. I was under the impression that most people who get into any aspect of the drug trade do so because they were already into drugs for their own use. The only exceptions would be those who live in areas so economically disadvantaged that there is no other way to make money. |
