"You have to go back if you want to go forward" The context of this statement is currently causing a bit of a headache for me, though hopefully over time I will get it easily. |

Go back = physically move/walk backwards? return to a previous location? or is it in a figurative sense of undoing progress? Same for "go forward"? |

Is a spring invovled? Bow? Elastic? Something else that stores mechanical energy? Is energy stored by going back, and then released, propelling something forwards? Or am I on the wrong track? |

If you tried to go forwards without going back, would you: be unable to move? Hit an obstacle? Expend more energy? Be in danger? Fall down? Get hurt? Die? Become lost? Or captured? Is the puzzle statement something one human is saying to another? Are they adult? Male? |

This puzzle statement makes me think of driving. Is it related to driving? If so, trying to do a two-point turn? Doing a U-turn? Getting a bumper car (at an amusement park) stuck in a corner? If not driving, is it related to a vehicle of any kind? |

Is it a human blocking your path? Do you have to go back in order to let the living thing get out of the way? In order to show respect? Go back: straightr backwards? Go forwards: straight forwards again, following the same path? Does this happen: in a certain place? Whenever encountering this sort of living thing? Whenever encountering this exact living thing? |

The blocking is part of the enjoyment. While the enjoying person might wish there was less blocking, they realize that without it the activity would be pointless. NOTE: the blocking is not a direct reason for going back here. The main reason for going back is the fear of punishment. But going back does make it easier to overcome the blocking |

American Football? Are we looking for a specifik type of event in the game where the player is blocked? Or a specifik type of player? Because a lot of times a football player can go forward without going backwards. For example when other teammates clear the path. |

Rugby? Does it involve it being illegal to throw a forward pass in rugby? Kicking the ball backwards in the scrum so your teammates can advance the ball? |

Or if it is American football, is it that you have to snap the ball back to start the play, and hence advance forward on the field? |

Does it have to do with falling back so you aren't tackled immediately, then passing or running forward or around the opponents in front of you? |

I think I might as well post a *****SPOILER******* In rugby, the "backs" are the players who are supposed to move the ball upfield. However, they are callled backs because they are positioned behind the "forwards"(players who are mainly dfensive muscle). Thus, if you want to go forward with the ball, you have to go "back" to the back of the field. As a new rugby player, I find this confusing, given that in most sports, those that move the ball upfield are called forwards and are positioned in front of the defenders. |

Nice puzzle! This will add new information to the font of random knowledge stuck in my brain. (I might as well also point out that the rugby questions I asked are the extent of my rugby knowledge, except for the newly-revealed spoyler and that a "try" is a way to score.) |
