Here is the best medical advice in the world. It doesn't involve giving up anything good (like huge desserts) or taking up anything icky (like exercise). It doesn't require a mental makeover (like convincing yourself that cancer helps you "grow."). It involves an expenditure of no extra time & at most about $10 every year or so. And although it doesn't always work, it often does, and you can tell in about a week whether it's working for you. What is it?

Does it require eating anything? Drinking anything? Does it involve a doctor at all? Can anyone follow this advice? Can children?

does the advice promote weight loss? lower cholesterol? lower blood pressure? any improvement in any biochemical marker? improvement in fitness?

does the advice encourage you to eat anything particular? drink anything? ingest any particular substance? any drug relevant?

if you followed the advice would you change your behaviour in any way? change your way of thinking? change your relationships? change your job?

would it be apparaent to an onlooker that you were following the advice? to a friend?

is this actually possible? is this a joke? play on words?

is politics relevant? religion?

if you can tell in a week if it's working - would you be able to tell because of a change in some biological measurement? of yourself? by some change in mental attitude? your physical appearance? by some change in the way people treat you?

does the advice aim to make you healthier? less prone to illness? less prone to injury? need less recourse to medical interventions? make you happier? wealthier? live longer?

are any of these relevant - jobs? education? place of residence? hobbies? addiction? money? travel? the media? herbal medicines? vitamins? friends? colleagues? the boss? pets? doctors? nurses? the law? neighbours?

is the mode of waking up relevant? use of an alarm? having something to eat or drink on waking? is the amount of light in the room relevant? the amount of sound?

relevant whether sleeping alone?

so the time when a person wakes up is relevant but the advice is not to wake up later? or earlier? is it to wake up naturally? at the time the body 'wants to'?

Total darkness required? yesacheive by wearing sleep mask? yes

************ SPOILER ******************

The best medical advice in the world (which has all the virtues mentioned on the puzzle description) is that you might sleep better in a totally dark room, which you may be able to get simply by drawing your shades. If not, a sleep mask costs about $10 & lasts about a year till the elastic gives out.Old hands at the forum may know that this is my second puzzle about sleeping in a totally dark room. All hands on the forum should scroll down to find my next puzzle.
