For several years, I had a scrund about birds, which was both passive and active. This scrund was finally cured when I arrived at college. What's the scrund? | ||

Was it about all birds? Or only flying birds? Is it about bird behavior? Whether they are warmblooded? Was your scrund true for some species of birds? Or completely false? Did you get it because something you observed? Read? Was told? Or something you missed? Or misunderstood? | ||

Birds = warm-blooded, egg-laying, feathered vertebrates? Was it cured because of something they taught you at the college? Because of the birds that lived around your college? Somebody there told you about it? | ||

Anything to do with how or what they eat? nest? breed? relationship with humans? None of these IYHO is this scrund ridiculous or do you figure lots of other people have it? Ridiculous-ish (that's where the whole active/passive thing comes in), and I doubt anyone else has it. | ||

No BTW: Whats the difference between active and passive scrund? I don't quite get it... An active scrund is something you regularly assume/think about. The first ever scrund was Nimue's - she thought that Christian doctrine held that Jesus healed leopards (as opposed to lepers). A passive scrund is something you take for granted, but don't think about on a regular basis. Another good example of this (another Nimue puzzle as well) is that China has only one time zone, but most people would assume it has more. Hope that clears things up. | ||

Did you ever see the bird in question? Is it a real one? If you saw her, it was at a zoo? In the park? In a book? Is it (the scrund) related to the bird's name? Its country of origin? Is it the passive/active fact (if I've got the idea right) something like you misunderstood something and then you took the wrong information as granted? | ||

About the seeing part -- I meant: did you just read about the bird or was some kind of a picture in the book? Like in children books? Has the bird actually existed at some point in time? But it is extinct now? | ||

Possible $poiler emailed. Possible $poyler correct, and that's all we need to find out for the **********SPOILER********** I attend Elon University in North Carolina, and our mascot is the phoenix. During orientation (a few days ago), we received a pamphlet including the history of the mythical phoenix, and I realized that for several years now, I'd believed that there was such a real bird as a phoenix. Apparently, I'd somehow thought that this real phoenix was named for the mythical one, although it did not "rise from the ashes" etc. My scrund was both passive and active: passive because I'd never thought about the "real phoenix," and active because whenever I thought about the mythical phoenix, I disassociated it from the "real" one, thus keeping my scrund alive. Nice job everyone, most notably Rbruma for the solve. |
