I know, Woodworm. Been too long, just rediscovering how much I love these puzzles, lol

One more person relevant? 2? Less than 5? 10? More than 10?

Is there anything relevant about Dave, except his fondness for designer wear?

Credit cards relevant? Any HUGE debts? (just to get the most obvious out of the way)

One more person relevant? 2? Less than 5? 10? More than 10? a few, but the puzzle scenario would work for 10-100 or thereabouts

Is there anything relevant about Dave, except his fondness for designer wear? well, he's a normal guy, but it wouldn't hurt to find out a little more about him

Credit cards relevant? Any HUGE debts? (just to get the most obvious out of the way) not at all

Other people relevant: HAM? HAF? HCM? HCF? HTM? HTF? let's just assume that there a few other adult males who could be relevant

LTPF relevant? no Wow, seven acronyms in a row. yes, you should be ashamed of yourself :-)Designer clothes - pants? Shirts? Socks? Shoes? Hats? Ties? Belts? Undies? none of those

Did Dave commit a crime? no Was he planning to? no Did he always wear the designer clothes? no Only on one particular occasion? On a few particular occasions? this Was he "brought down" in one instant? Over the course of: a few seconds? A few minutes? A few hours? A few days? A few weeks? A few months? this is closest A few years? A few decades? A few centuries? A few millenia? A few eons? hehe, this is not a sci-fi puzzle

Is this a true story? I got the idea from an actual situation, but I've extended it in a hypothetical way FYOI? FSEI? Did it happen in [LTPF list of centuries]? It's hypothetical, but let's say 2010 in the UK On [LTPF list of continents]? Relevant? no

Dave's hobby: Chess? no, but ... Other board games? this: it would not work for chess crossword puzzles? other word/number puzzles?

The other relevant people: Dave's friends? family? Co-workers? Business partners? unrelated strangers? no to all: they are merely the people with whom he plays the game

Scrabble? You know me too well :-)

Does Dave think a word exists that is not an official scrabble word? most scrabble players try phony words from time to time, but this isn't the answer

Does Dave get caught cheating? No, although there was a high-profile case of this a few years ago, when a Bahraini player with a baseball cap was using the peak of his cap to disguise the fact that he was peering into the bag. He got banned.

Does Dave make an error of some sort? is scrabble scoring relevant? the blank tile? bonus squares like triple word score? Is Dave's downfall gradual? Does he realise something? or do the people he's playing against?

Is the particular designer wear Sunglasses?

this may sound a bit left field but..... Is Dave blind?

Hurrah for Scrabble!

Is Dave cheating? If the designer clothes are sunglasses, are they mirrored shades? Is his downfall directly related to Scrabble? Indirectly?

*** SPOILER ***

His opponents can see his letters reflected in his shades? Yes!

It has probably never happened in reality, and you'd have to peer into someone's eyes and crane your neck to a rather suspicion-arousing degree.

But I'd certainly think twice before wearing some of the fancier mirrored shades that some players go in for.

A nice easy one. Thanks for playing.

Nice one.

This would also be a hazard for Texas Holdem players or any card game for that matter.

I wondered about this, too. But I think poker players peek at their cards and slide them face-down on the table. It may also be that card players are naturally more suspicious :-)
