She gave a very precise and correct answer to the question put to her. Yet, it was frowned upon and created somewhat of an incident. |

UK, hmm? Any particular part? England? Scotland? Wales? Northern Ireland? Any other part I left out? (I love the UK but it's hard to keep track of all the smaller bits...*wry grin*) I think it was in England, but the exact part is not really relevant. It could also have happened a few other places, but realistically only inside the commonwealth (see below) British Royal Family relevant? Yes Line of succession? No Any other famous figures from the UK relevant? Nope Or is Our Heroine practically a nobody? Yes |

Was it HM the Q who did the frowning? Or one of her family, perhaps? Was it a Royal who asked Jane the question? Was the question something like 'and what do you do'? And the answer, perhaps, was 'I contribute to your opulent lifestyle through the Civil List, Ma'am'? Are herbs relevant? Was Jane intending to be cheeky? Or was there a misunderstanding? A double meaning or such? Or some misunderstanding of social conventions, such as when Eliza Doolittle talks in great meteorological detail about the weather? |

Does the American pronunciation of "herb" with a silent 'h' have anything to do with it? (We pronounce "herb" with the h generally only for the person's name Herb, short for Herbert, while I understand the Brits always voice the h) Please don't ask me why, I don't know... |

Something like "How does the Queen look?" And Jane replied "She looks really fat in that dress" when in fact the queen did look fat in the dress but a bunch of people heard Jane's remark and got mad that she had insulted the queen. |

Did Liz ask Jane about herbs? About her life? Her line of work? Her hobbies? Did either woman mention the name of a particular herb? Is the name of a particular herb relevant to the puzzle? If so, is it a potherb? A garden plant? A medicinal herb? An illegal plant? A culinary herb? One mentioned in Scarborough Fair? Basil? Did Jane misunderstand the question? Is Jane an anti-Royalist? For everyone that doesn’t know the series, Rosemary and Thyme is a British crime series. One retired police woman (Laura Thyme), the other a retired professor (Rosemary Boxer), both with green fingers, work together as garden architects and experts on plants. And of course, being a crime series – wherever they show up to fix up someone’s garden, the bodies show up as well, lol |

In the title, is "Rosemary" a person? Is "Thyme"? both are Is Jane "Thyme"? This, it was Laura Thyme that answered the Queen's question "Rosemary"? Time for a little recap before I head to bed. This is from an episode of the British crime series 'Rosemary and Thyme', where the two female sleuths work as garden designers/architects. In one episode, they meet the Queen (for a spesific reason, it's not like she just 'pops' by). The Queen puts a question to Laura Thyme (our Jane), a question she answers truthfully, but the answers causes somewhat of a stir because it appears she is disrespecting the Queen. |

Was it a public garden? One on a private residence? Good question. I think originally it must have been private, but there is a reason why the two women are there. Was there a certain relevant plant in the garden? A type of plants is relevant to find out what sort of garden it was. But one plant is directly relevant to the puzzle. |

Was the question about the garden? Why they were at that particular garden? No to both. I assume the Queen already knew why they were in the garden at the time. And it has nothing to do with the crime (which by the time the Queen arrived had been solved anyway) |

Was the question directed at Laura? Were both R+T present when the question was asked? |

Was the question directed at Laura? Yes Were both R+T present when the question was asked? No. Rosemary was in the garden, but she didn't hear the question, nor the answer |

Was the question about a person? An object? Was Laura holding something relevant? Wearing something relevant? Was the Queen holding something relevant? Wearing something relevant? |

Was she holding a flower? Almost there, this is the weed that is sometimes used as a garden plant. |

Is it fernlike? Nope I guess it's going to take too long to go through all the different weeds, so I'll tell you. In the beginning of the episode, Rosemary names it as Soleirolia soleirolii. Now what is so special about it, that would cause people to be upset? |

I just looked it up, so I'll just ask one question to make sure I get the idea... Did the Queen ask Thyme, "What is this plant called?" or something in that sense, and she replied with a common name of the plant? |

Balin (Balin) Relevant that the name sounds repetitious? no Kayleetonkslupin (Kayleetonkslupin) I just looked it up, so I'll just ask one question to make sure I get the idea... Did the Queen ask Thyme, "What is this plant called?" or something in that sense, and she replied with a common name of the plant? Spot on! So then it's time for a ****************SPOILER***************** In the Rosemary and Thyme episode "In A Monastery Garden", the two women are asked to restore a monestary herb garden back to its former glory. It dated back to the medieval times, so the custos had been told by Bucking ham Palace that when the garden was finished and ready to be re-opened, the Queen herself would officially open it. As the Queen was walking around, she saw Laura Thyme with a plant in her hand, the Soleirolia soleirolii. The Queen asked what the plant was called, and Laura Thyme answered with the common name instead of the Latin, 'Mind Your Own Business'! |
