A timber named measuring device. The goal is to find the words that fill in the sentence by finding words that are related or synonyms for the words in red. In this case, there are intermediate stages. The words will go from red to orange to green to blue, with blue being the final word. Take a look at my previous puzzle "Degrees of Separation" to see how this works. |

Timber = wood? tree? plank? Measuring device = cup? spoon? ruler? yardstick? scale? If none of the above, does it measure length? volume? mass/weight? incidentally...I'm not normally one to care what puzzle types are called, but in this case I think "multi-tiered Idiomuzzle" could be confusing since this type of puzzle seems to have one major difference from idiomuzzles. In idiomuzzles, the black words are irrelevant except as separation between the words that matter. In this type of puzzle (at least, in Degrees of Separation, and I'm assuming this one too), the black words are very important because they're part of the final answer. That's a big difference. To me, calling this an idiomuzzle could cause confusion over how the two types of puzzles are solved or hosted. "Multi-tiered _____" makes sense to me, though. I'm just not sure that Idiomuzzle is the right word for the blank. |

Timber = wood? tree? plank? I think wood and tree are generally what this word refers to in the context used, but that is not the word you seek. Measuring device = cup? spoon? ruler? This! yardstick? scale? If none of the above, does it measure length? volume? mass/weight? A timber named ruler. As far as the name, thanks for the feedback. I was looking for an idiomuzzle to compare, because I've never worked on one and only vaguely recollect how they work, but I couldn't find any. Do you know where one is located? Maybe "Multi-tiered substitution"? I seem to remember "substitution puzzle" being an existing puzzle type, though. Hm...maybe that's part of the puzzle too. Figure out what the puzzle is called. |

Timber - Lumber? Log? Ruler - King? Empreror? Emir? Prince? President? Governor? Queen? Dictator? To be honest I don't think the name of this puzzle type is that important as long as you use the explanatory paragraph at the start (which is very clear I might add)| |

Timber - Lumber? Log? It's not these. In this case, it's not a synonym. Ruler - King? Empreror? Emir? Prince? President? Governor? Queen? Dictator? This, but that's not the next word. |

William? If you're referring to Shakespeare, yes, that is correct. Blue is final, though, so you're actually looking for the green in this one, although that's different from my last one of these. Indeed! ********SPOILER********** A monkey named Shakespeare. This, as guessed, refers to the infinite monkey theory of probability. The word path: Timber = Wolf = spider = monkey Timber is a type of wolf, wolf is a type of spider, spider is a type of monkey. Measuring device = ruler = Julius Caesar = Shakeaspeare A ruler is a type of measuring device, Julius Caesar was a ruler, and also a tragedy by William Shakespeare. Good job all, and thanks for playing. I know it's kind of a crazy puzzle type. |
