Galfisk? Skydiving? Cucumbers? woubit? cake? Koch? (Just teasing. This is Kaylee-speak for "at the moment, I have no idea". If any of that turns out to be relevant, I shall laugh)

Monkeys? No

PCs (as in computers)? Macs (as in computers)? Those Mac Commercials with the Mac and the PC? No to all - it was simply a reference to political correctness (often abbreviated PC).

And I love how my name has turned into a joke. As long as we keep pronouncing it right....

RECAP so as to clear up any FAs:

This is a real-life occurrence of political correctness taken to the extreme. It is ongoing at my college, and I will say that many (read: all) students, and a good chunk of professors, disagree with it. Bananas - be it the fruit or the plane (best of luck to it) - are not relevant.

Lowell Spinners (minor league baseball) Political Corectness Night? (They had it in 2009) From the press release:
-- The first 500 FANS will receive road maps for navigation purposes while planning their summer trips.
-- The "shortstop" becomes the "Vertically Challenged Stop", while other positions are referred to in gender-neutral terms (ie "First Base Person")
- A PC Policeperson (Spinner intern) dressed in green will roam the concourse correcting politically incorrect statements and actions. Watch out you over indulgent ketchup or mustard user. Waste is politically incorrect!
- Bases aren't numbered (because no base is better than another)
- Salute to Hybrids/Solar Energy/Recycling (otherwise known as Crunchy Granola types)
- Bat-Person - one boy & one girl (We wouldn't want to break Title IX rules)
- Play Anthems of all countries our players are from (Get ready for a nice loooooooong pre-game!)
- Our PA Announcer will speak different languages throughout the game to insure all fans are catered to. Our PA Announcers will also switch, with 4.5 innings of a male and 4.5 innings of a female to announce our players.
- Our traditional pre-game field of dreams will feature both a pregame softball game and little league game, so both male and female teams are allowed to play.

- Fans who possess a Green Card to prove legal residency get 15% off in the store

- Obesity, particularly in children, is a major issue so we will be offering in-game physical fitness for our fans. We will also offer a table for fans to register for a season long Spinners Fan Biggest Loser contest to promote healthier living.
- No position announced with errors because we would never want to hurt anyone's feelings. Can't we all be winners?
- "Honor" those local high schools that changed their team mascots because team names like "Red Men" and "Warriors" are offensive.

Or their Politically Incorrect Night the night after?

- The first 500 MEN will receive road maps for navigation on the roads, since we know men
guzzle.jpg

would never pull over and ask for directions.
- Fans who cannot fit through the turnstile will be charged for a "companion seat." However, since all of our seats are sold out, they will be asked to purchase an additional "standing room only" ticket. Airline seat belts will be used as a measuring stick (one seatbelt OK, two seatbelts NO WAY).

- Yankees fans will not be allowed to enter through the main gate. These fans will be shown to a back entrance way for special entry.
- Giveaway Gas Cards as a prize to the fans that arrive at the game using the biggest gas guzzlers.
- All-Time Politically Incorrect Moment will be determined by the fans (still looking for submissions)

- Only Females will work in the concession stands taking orders, to insure that women provide the men with their food.

- The fifth inning will be designated as time for women to get their husbands/boyfriends an in-game snack and/or beverage because they have worked hard all day
elderly sleep.jpg

- Everything is in English because people should be speaking our country's language.
- Youth Soccer Game in outfield and we keep score, because kids need to learn about winning and losing.

- A salute to those teams who have remained strong and refused to change their "offensive" team (local high schools, like colleges, in Massachusetts have been forced to change their team names) while mocking those teams that did change
- At 8 p.m. cots will be available for elderly people to nap while the remainder of their party enjoys the game.

- Players making errors will have clips played on the video board mocking their misplays (Mine, Mine, Mine from Finding Nemo and DOH! From the Simpsons highlighting the clips)

Is Tyson Homosexual relevant? (The American Family Organization, a conservative news service, censors the word "Gay" to "Homosexual" on its website, citing traditional family values. During the 2008 Olympics, it picked up a story from AP and reported that "Tyson Homosexual" had easily qualified for the finals of the 200 meter dash.
Something ridiculous like that involving censorship of words even when they are used out of context? Refusal to play an old song that uses the word "gay" to mean "jubilant"? Something along these lines?

Only the idea of gender-neutrality is relevant, and only two words can describe all that:

EPIC WIN!

Is a neologism relevant? Not really Such as herstory? Womyn? That kind of thing? Freshperson? But this is certainly close enough - they changed "freshman" because of the "-man" part. The Straw Person Fallacy? No (Taking the phallus out of the fallacy?) Is 'man' changed Yesish to 'person' No in a word This or phrase? Or a male pronoun?

Woodworm has the main point, so

**********SPOILER**********

In the spirit of political correctness, Elon University (which I attend) has decided to stop calling freshmen "freshmen" (because it uses the male pronoun) and start calling us "first-year students" or "first-years". Every student I have talked to about this (and a good chunk of professors) agree that this is completely absurd. Whenever someone asks me what grade I am in, I always say "I'm a freshman - NOT a first-year."

Kudos to everyone who asked questions and to Woodworm for the solve. Although to be PC, I shouldn't be singling Woodworm out at all.

In the UK we tend to say 'freshers', but even this fell foul of the PC police, who changed the name from Freshers' Week to Welcome Week. We now call them Whelks.

UConn officially doesn't refer to students as "freshmen", "sophmores", etc but as "first-semester", "second-semester", etc. which is not even based on how many semesters you've been here but on credits. This makes it easier to classify students who are either graduating early, started school spring semester, or transferred here from somewhere else. But it's weird too. So if you have enough AP credits, you can come here as a "second-semester" student.

Woodworm, I don't know why, but I am entirely behind the concept of calling freshies whelks b/c of "welcome week." I laughed, and you definitely win.

Balin, great idea for a puzzle! Gotta love that Elon... changed their mascot from the Fightin' Christians, and now this -- it's getting a mite ridiculous. Incidentally, when I was a high school freshman (freshwoman? first year?) in '99, I went on a college tour there, and our guide joked with us that they were going to rename them the Squirrels because of the sheer number on campus :-) Beautiful place, though. Will have to inform my friends who went there about this situation so they can go back and use alumnae ;-) power to smite the school's PTB (powers that be).

Also, gregoryuconn, I never knew what to call myself in college, since I guess I was technically a third-semester student going in (46 credit hours pre-first day of classes -- RAWR!), so according to my school I wasn't even in the same year as the people who started classes the same time as me. Man, would that ___-semester thing have helped me out!

Random spiel over now... move along, move along. ;-)

Ha. We should change our name to the squirrels. They run around here all the time. Even when there's people. I've come close to stepping on two in the last month and a half since I've been here. They just ran out from under something and almost went under my feet.

There's one student here I know who refers to herself as a one-two-three student: first year at Elon, second year of college, and third year out of high school. And yes, the squirrels are everywhere, though I somehow avoid running into a lot of them.

Kalira - I loved your random spiel.

By the way, I've even seen "freshpersons." Now that's over the top.
