Is it more than one voice? no Could you please recap? Sure. The other night I sat down at my computer. I did some work on it, and something that involves audio happened and made me think "whoa, this is acting more human than before". I was not recording my voice, nor was I doing any audio or video editing or anything like that. There's nothing special on the computer (no piano keyboard, etc), and I think what happend would only occur on Mac laptops and desktops. |

Does it stop at punctuation? To actually make a sentence? Rather than continuing onwards? It will speak a full sentence and use punctuation (pauses, etc) like before, but there's one key thing it does now that it didn't do before. What it does makes it sound more human. Seem to be going in circles here, want a $poiler hint or do you want to press on? Where's you're help? Someone seeing this with a fresh set of eyes will likely get it, I think you're just stuck. |

Does it pause for a breath now and then? YES! Does it imitate laughter, coughing, anything like that? *********** SPOILER **************** I was working on my resume the other day and wanted to hear what it sounded like, so I read it aloud to myself. But then I realized if I highlighted the text there was a Speech option. After listening to it, I noticed it sounded a lot more realistic than I rememebered text-to-speech used to sound. I had to listen to it a few times before I realized that the 'computer' was stopping to take an audible breath. If its reading a few sentences, and one sentence is long, it will take a bigger breath. Or if it anticipates a long sentence coming up, it will take a big breath before reading the sentence. It's really quite odd, but makes it sound a lot more human. From Apple's website: Alex (the name they gave the new speech) sounds just like the rest of us Thanks to Apple's new speech technology, Alex’s voice more closely matches the nuances of human speech, so you can more easily understand the meaning of longer text passages in books, articles, and news stories. In fact, when Alex speaks a long passage, you’ll even hear him breathe. Apple built human lung capacity and human sentence parsing into its speech synthesizer, so Alex would sound more like us when he speaks. The synthesizer inserts a breath based on a variety of factors: appropriateness, the structure of the text being read, the time since the last breath, and the time until Alex finishes speaking. Thanks for playing everyone, especially Balin who drove this thing most of the way. I knew someone would swoop in at the end. Oh, and the title, "The police were on to something," was in refrence to the band The Police's song "Every Breath You Take" |
