This isn't my usual third puzzle, but it should go quicker than most...I'm hoping it counts as a lateral puzzle because I don't know what else to call it.

Are we trying to figure out what letter goes in the blank? Does a letter belong there at all?

Are the letters initials of words? or phrases? Or is it the position in the alphabet that matters (i.e., can we think of C as representing 3 and W as representing 23)?

Are we trying to figure out what letter goes in the blank? Does a letter belong there at all? Well...you can't find out what letter goes there, because even I don't know. You'd be better off figuring out why you *can't* get that letter...and yes, the other letters stand for things.

Are the letters initials of words? or phrases? Each is the first letter of a single word Or is it the position in the alphabet that matters (i.e., can we think of C as representing 3 and W as representing 23)? Not that.

Is "C" relevant for January, "W" for Feb, etc? Not like this. You don't need to change the letters.

Sports relevant? celebrities? While some of the people whose names are here are involved in sports in some fashion, that is not their main claim to fame. You may call them celebrities, though I doubt many outside their home country/ies care what they do. (Unless it's people like me)

None of the others but one have anything to do with that (and he's not assigned to a month either)

Hmmm.... Hmm-ing is probably required.

The order in which people joined something? *frowns slightly* It's not so much the order in which they *joined* something, as it is the order in which they can *get* something. New people who qualify can shove each other out of order as they join.

Countries? The names are people's names, though certain countries are involved...one more so than the rest.

Hmm...well, yes, sort of...the order in which people are most likely to reach a certain milestone works, I suppose...although I wouldn't think of it as a "milestone" precisely. It does depend on the order, though...the first person would (barring weird circumstances) get it before the second person, etc.

Not American? I was just assuming it was an American puzzle, and I was doing my best to think of all things American. Was muddling it up with your other one, perhaps :-)

So they are living people, whose appearance on the LTPF would be welcome and rather cool? Are they all male? All female? Or a mixture? Are they involved in sports? Music? Entertainment?

Are they winners of some prize?

Are they celebrities? Actors? Singers? They are certainly celebrities of a sort, and some have acted. Some may have been singers. But that is not what they are known for.

Is their nationality relevant? If so, [LTPF list of nationalities]? British.

Any birthdays relevant? In December? Mine? Well, a birthday in December is somewhat relevant. Is yours in December? Happy early birthday!

Not American? I was just assuming it was an American puzzle, and I was doing my best to think of all things American. Was muddling it up with your other one, perhaps :-) Sorry for the mislead.

So they are living people, whose appearance on the LTPF would be welcome and rather cool? Are they all male? All female? Or a mixture? Are they involved in sports? Music? Entertainment? They are a mixture of male and female. Some are adults, some teenagers, some children, and one isn't here yet.

Are they winners of some prize? Some of them have acquired various honors, but they're important for another reason.

Actually, I have no idea what British people do on weekends; in college, at least, there's a tendency for students to get utterly wasted, and then more so. I don't get the point of it.

Gory movies - not my thing. I've never been a big horror fan, although I would like to see Psycho and some others.

And I love baseball, but I would like to learn cricket, which I played once (in ninth grade, with a tennis ball). I have no recollection of how it went, but I had fun.

Is the group of a fixed size? Constantly growing? Constantly shrinking? Not a fixed size, no. And it hasn't grown for about...two years, Woodworm? At least not the list I have presented.

Current size of the group - in the hundreds? Thousands? More? The whole thing? At least hundreds, if not thousands, but there's laws which mess with the structure of the whole thing in any case so it's hard to figure out.

You think we sip tea on a weekend? Hehe. Oh, I didn't say all Brits. I just meant the ones in the puzzle.

Gory movies we do: Psycho was so British. I'm not one for gory movies, so I couldn't say for sure.

And baseball is just cricket with one stump and funny hats. ;-) I didn't get to learn cricket when I was in Staffordshire. My cousins play bowls. But then, they're my second cousins once removed, and 70...so.

So incidentally, the reason that I couldn't answer the blank one is because Peter and Autumn Phillips, son and daughter-in-law of Anne, the Princess Royal, are expecting their first child next month. Boy or girl, either way, it's going to knock Zara Phillips down one place in the succession.

You may enjoy this extract from the Caledonian Mercury, Scotland's first (and as far as I know, solitary) internet-only newspaper:

Two people who went to university together are to get married, it has emerged.

William Windsor (or possibly Wales or possibly Saxe-Coburg-Gotha) and Kate Middleton, both 28, met at St Andrews University eight years ago.

Mr Windsor is a Flight Lieutenant in the RAF and also a prince.

Wall-to-wall, dewy-eyed hysterical coverage can be found in every other media outlet.
