Why did a Frenchman go to Morocco to see the recent solar eclipse even though he could just as well have stayed home and seen it there? |

Relevant that it was noon in Oman but early morning in France during the eclipse? Did he want to take a picture of the sun and the surrounding clear sky, without buildings, trees, mountains, .. in the horizon? Relevant that the solar disc is larger at noon than it is in the morning? The Tyndall effect relevant? (or how it is called when light is scattered along microscopic particles in the air) Did he expect that dust from the desert will enhance this effect? Did he expect any spectaculous color of the sky in Oman? |

Was the Space Station going to be visible close to the eclipse by a time coincidence? Yes, for svv definitions of "close." This is almost solved... Oman was just a place where the Station will be at the time of the eclipse? I would hope not, since that would mean it crashed and we would have heard that on the news... :p Seriously, yes, this was the only place where it was visible during the eclipse. How? |

Is it because Oman is the only country out of those where the sun eclipse was visible that is crossed by the orbit of the Space Station? No, it depends on a number of factors - this can be seen at different places and times and in fact the photographer in question has taken many similar pictures from France and other places. The question is - Where specifically was the Space Station when the picture was taken at this particular place and time? |
