...there were certainly some very odd customs. (This may be a quickie, depending on who tries to solve it.) |

I can has recat an littul hintz? courze: RECAT (er, RECAP ;-) ) "In my foreign land..." is something often said by a certain human, adolescent male when he is unwittingly offended by others, and just before he corrects them by explaining the way things are done in his foreign land, expecting them to follow his customs. He is a character on a TV show that ran for several years in the '90s (it may or may not be on reruns on some channel, but I believe it's no longer produced, which is a pity). He was only in the show for its first few seasons. The show included much comedy, with elements of drama, fantasy, and sci-fi, as well as other genres that haven't been brought up yet. It was filmed in live-action, though animated characters from at least one show did appear in one brief shot during *one* appearance by this character (yeah, sorry, that's confusing...basically, this show is not animated, but others on its channel were, and characters from another show cameo'd on this one.) I hope that helps... |

Does he really think the customs are odd? He thinks (or at least, he pretends to think) that the *others'* customs are odd...they think his foreign land's customs are Or does he just say so? his catchphrase is "In my foreign land, ___" Do the others consider them odd? Oh yes Because they make him look socially awkward? definitely...and they usually affect the people he's explaining them to, more than they actually end up affecting him |

Is it Ishboo? It is Ishboo! ***SPOILER*** From April 14, 1994, to October 22, 2005, the sketch comedy/variety show "All That" aired on Nickelodeon. It was comprised of several different sketches per episode, in the vein of SNL (Saturday Night Live). One of the characters who often appeared during the first few years of the show's run was Ishboo, the foreign exchange student, whose "foreign land" was never named (played by Kenan Thompson). His foreign customs included: When greeting new friends, bang heads against the wall instead of shaking hands Stick face into bowls of creamed corn, to apologize for creaming it, for vegetables should be served naturally Parents wrestle outside after dinner t was proper in Ishboo's foreign land (which was never named) to shout "Walla Walla Woo!" and hide behind furniture in a panic after somebody sneezed. It was proper to bark like a dog while proposing a toast. It was customary to give your psychiatrist a live lobster on your first visit. A sick person must sleep with a duck Before the doctor can treat the patient, the patient must make sure the doctor is clean and free of bacteria When Ishboo's American friends gave him a birthday cake, he ran for a fire extinguisher in a panic and immediately doused the candles, asking, "How dare you set fire to my birthday cake?" It is suspected that Ishboo may have been a fake, as he is quite adept at getting out of troublesome situations-even those he "did not understand" seconds before. To escape from predicaments, he would hypnotize people by using his "swinging jewel". Comedian Sinbad guest starred as Ishboo's father, Sinboo. I wonder what Mr. Coke would think of Ishboo's foreign land being Gregory Coke Land, just for the sake of amusement... |

I was reading this whole puzzle just now (a little late I see) knowing that I knew it, but not being able to remember what it was. I just remember that I knew that line from somewhere. It was definitely NOT the same show once the original cast left. Once people like Amanda started on the show... |
