Is the symptom associated with a specific disease? Only a few diseases? Or is it a more general symptom, associated with many diseases? Was your scrund that you thought something other than the truth about the disease(s) associated with the symptom? If so, same questions for what you thought. |

Does it have anything to do with the relationship between itching and pain? For a while there was a theory among some, that itching is merely very mild pain. As far as I know, that has been mostly disproven, i.e. I believe there are distinct "itch nerves" that have been discovered. |

Interesting, but is pain a matter of which nerves are involved or of how something feels (or both)? |

There are specific nerves that transmit pain impulses to the brain, which are different from the ones that carry the sensation of touch. Some thought that the same nerves (and nerve endings) that sense pain, when stimulated so slightly that it does not consciously register as pain, was the cause of itch. |
